shimming a flywheel? help
so i installed a new starter and it makes a noise. i read it could be the flywheel and you need to get it shimmed. could it be something else? i went to the shop today and i asked the guy. he said there is no shimming. you have to drop the tranny and replace the flywheel. he said $600. is this foreal? this is my only way of transportation so is it bad that i keep starting it with that noise? is it gonna get worse?

It is tough to say, the noice could be caused by a couple of things. but i belive your mechanic is right in saying there are no shims on a honda starter. what i would do is remove the starter and clean off the mating surfaces and make sure you tq it down all the way, and make it tight, see if that helps. you may also want to look on the teak of they flywheel, it may be that they are worn and making excessive noise. if thats the case u need a new flywheel. if you dont the only think i see happening is the starter teeth wearing faster.
