I think my car is dead.
I am not car expert So i come here seeking help..
I have a 1990 honda civic 1.5L, Manual Tranny.
Well it had some issues with bogging, so i was going to change the spark plugs the next day, well when i got to work the car sounded like a lawn mower, i discovered there was no oil in it.
so i added 2 quarts? or so
and it still sounded bad and bogged worse.
so i changed the spark plugs and found the spark plugs covered in oil,..
so i cleaned it up and put new ones in. still sounds bad.
Can anyone tell me exactly what it is?
Thanks.
Edit.
I guess that because oil is leaking into the spark plugs causing misfire would be the cause of the rough sounding due to it be a 3 cyl car then, haha.
but so then i could get a new gasket and would also that fix my rough car sputtering issues.

I don't have enough money to get the gauge for a compression test...
the car has 264K miles.
It seems to do fine running in higher RPM's such as a highway speed.
but lower rpm's it sputters and has a hard time,
I guess my next thing is that gasket to fix the oil leak,.
other then that, it sounds like a go-kart.

Well, you need to replace your spark plug tube seals, that is how oil is getting onto the spark plugs. Also check your wires, sounds like one of them has a break in it, causing the spark to arc.
Start the car, pull each one of the wires off the spark plugs and see which one, if any, make a change in the motor. The ones that do make a change, car will act like it's going to stall, those ones are good, the one(s) you hear don't make a change is going to be the culprit.
I would also check the cap and rotor and make sure they aren't all corroded, I'v seen people that if they can't afford it, use a flat head screw driver and clean off the corrosion and put everything back together. Up to you.

Hello, well i pulled one of the plug wires and sure enough it did nothing, i removed the spark plug and it's burnt.
i just put it in yesterday.
So it sucks.
but it was covered in oil. so i definitely running 3cyl.

wet oil?
was it on the ceramic white side of the spark plug or on the metal parts that the spark is created?
I'm sort of surprised you are seeing oil on the plug just one day after replacing it.

check to make sure your plug wires are in the distributor cap in the correct firing order.
plug #1 into the spot marked with a "C" on the cap, then clockwise is 1-3-4-2
on the motor, #1 is the cylinder furthest from the cap, #4 is closest.

And yes it was wet.
I pulled it and wiped it down and replaced it.
Still sounding like a Go-kart.
Everything is in the correct order as when i did spark plugs i did it one at a time, to avoid any confusion, and no wires were pulled beforehand.
Yeah, I was thinking of doing that.
Would that resolve my problem, or do you think the damage has been done.
Other then that I could get a new spark plug and see if that works after the gasket.
And if the issue persists?

for ***** and giggles CLEAN your plug wires hella to get rid of any oil and replace plugs and spark plug tube seals and see how it runs. also, test your plug wires to make sure one isn't broken.
I did run some some steel wool through on the connectors.
I did run a cloth through the spark plug tubes and cleaned it up, so there was no oil in it.
I did put another spark plug in it, and it ran a little nicer, then it seemed like it failed, and went back to go-kart mode.

new spark plug seal should solve the oil in spark plugs. let us know what happens after new seals so we can help.

NO that is the head gasket.
This is what you need.

ah sorry.
So all i need is the ones for the spark plugs then?
and basically I removing the few bolts on top and replacing that, and then lightly tightening them back?
Sorry cars are not my thing, i am a computer person

if there is any oil leakage from your vlave cover i would suggest your also buy a valve cover gasket with the spark plug seals (gromments).
