Ecu Question (Swapping between cars)
Hi there,
Quick question, my buddy just installed a JDM GSR into his ek and long story short its running like *** while its cold and we think it could be a bad ecu. If i put my chipped p28 into his car just to try it to rule the ecu out of the equation, is there anyway my chip can get damaged?? Or since its obd1 nothing will happen?? I just want to confirm this, to my knowledge nothing will happen but I just wanted to make sure.
Thanks

IF the fueling and ignition requirements are similer, then it should be ok to start it and let it run.
But if the engines are very different it may run worse since the fuel and ignition settings will be way off.
IF everything is ok with his swap then it will not damage your ECU in anyway.
But keep in mind that a common problem with swaps is switching the EVAP purge solenoid and IAT plugs, this causes the car to run rich and poor especially when it's cold. It will also pop one of the transistors in your ECU.
