Default Code 15

Code 15 - Ignition Output Signal

Something is wrong with the referance voltage, the ECU is receiving from the igniter.

my friend bought a 1990 dx hb. he got it for a deal cus it didnt start. the previous owner tryed doing a mpfi swap he said he got it too run but it ran like crap then one day it wouldnt start...i was wondering that code 15 could be from wiring mpfi wrong? b10 b12 c1 c2 are pretty hac'd up. (there not the orig. color)

it dont get spark, fuel dumps, turns over

TIA

b10, b12, c1 and c2, are not going to be their orginal colors as you have to run them into the engine bay for Cylinder Position Sensor (c1 and c2).

Try and different distributor, your ignitor in the dizzy is 99% bad. You can swap in a different ignitior from a D series, I believe all of them are interchangeable.

c1 should be orange and c2 should be white but there not. (before moving to b10-b12)

so you think its just the blac/yellow wire or the igniter. nothen to do with the mpfi wiring swap

They might have just repinned the connector instead of splicing in the new wires. If you aren't throwing a code 9 for the Cylinder Position sensor, don't sweat it, obviously it is correct or else it would throw a code.

I attached the troubleshooting from the Factory Service Manual to help see if you ignitor is bad.

code 15 is gone, so the cars getting spark now.

but now theres no fuel, the injectors aint opening
fuel pump hums
main relay clikcs twice
fuel gets to the fr

the injectors wont open. obd1 injectors are being used. all of the yellow/blakc injector wires are twisted together even the two dpfi yellow/blac wires.

yellow injector wire to #1 injector(brown)
Red injector wire to #3 injector(blue)
A3 to #2 injector (red)
A7 to #4 injector (yellow)

i dont know whats wrong, i searched but couldnt find anything. i tryed a pm6,pr4,pr3. differnt obd1 injectors and 2 differnt main relays
TIA!

Wait so you removed the resistor box then right? If you removed the resistor box, the yel/blk wire should be wired to all the red wires from the resistor box since you are using obd1 injectors. Are you 100% they are obd1?

what trim is the car?

What is the engine harness out of?

Because you said it's an ej1 engine harness but then you said a 88 std used on a 90 dx.

if i'm not mistaken i believe that's your problem. i recall reading somewhere that on the 88's, and possibly 89's, the wire for the igniter is on the other side of the engine bay in a diff harness and therefore if you try to use an 88 harness in a 90-91 or vice versa then it wont work. not sure if you can work around this or not. someone else has dealt with this before i'm sure of it so i'd just wait for one of them to chime in lol.
