EK difference?
Mainly the front end (hood,fenders,grille,bumper,headlights.)
96-98 front is more rounded, no foglight holes in bumper
99-00 front is sharper, with foglight holes in the bumper
From 96-98 the taillights were different from the 99-00, as well as the climate control area.
There's also the lock/latch difference for the hatch itself between certain years.

what do you mean fake? the reason i ask is because i really want to get one, i have the oppertunity to buy one right now, a 96 for $2000 with 115k all stock. just dont know if its a good deal for a 96. are they big in difference from 99-00 ones? do i get it or wait to get a newer one?
theres not major differences, everything on the 99-00 will bolt right onto the 96-98.
a 96 for 2k? whats wrong with it. my buddy just picked one up milano red, same miles, in ok shape for 2100 so id say go for it. you can always look around and see what the newer ones are going for, or you could always put the newer parts on the 96.

just a hassle to convert it to a 99-00.
but its up to you.
you can convert everything over to make it look like its a 99-00.
2k is not bad for a good condition.
just my opinion though.
just my opinion too.
lol had a whole thread on my decision with the 96-98 vs 99-00 and I decided to stay the older style. I see so many newer style front ends and hardly any older. I figured why make it look like something its not. The electronic climate control is nicer but it still does the same thing.
I just picked up a 96 dx with a freshly swapped motor (only 81k on stock d16y7) and I have to say I like the combination I have on mine. It has the 99-00 rear end and the stock 96 front end with a lip. Picked it up for 3300 it needs a little bit of work but I purchased it for a daily driver and project car so it worked with what I was looking at.
i like the 96-98 better, but the 99-00 climate control is SICK! but i agree on the fogs for the 99-00 not really the best looking. but everyone has a diff opinion on these two
