HELP-- How to wash away shaving cream on paint?
I recently just got married and all of my groomsmen sprayed alot of shaving cream all over my 96 Honda Civic EX. I left for my honeymoon before I had a chance to wash it off and now the stuff will not come out. The red paint sadly now looks pretty awful. Anyone had this problem before? Oh and I should say I have tried washing the car twice and it is still there.
Let me know if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks so much.
PS This is a completely different subject but not one I wanted to make a separate thread for. My 96 Civic EX has the D16y8 motor. I have read in countless places that the y8 has VTEC; however in my engine bay there are no badges or signs distinguishing that fact. Is that normal? Also I have driven my friend's h22 and you can definitely feel when the VTEC kicks in but on mine there is no real point when I feel that extra VTEC omph. Could that just be because of the DOHC compared to SOHC or am I just worrying to much?
Anyway, thanks again for the input and help.
Peace.

First off, congratulations.
Second, it's time to get the groomsmen to pitch in for a new paint job. How long was the shaving cream on it? Are you sure that's what it is, and not shoe polish? Was the car outside, and how was the weather? It's possible it's quite baked into the paint already. I don't know of any remedies for that off hand.
As far as the engine, as long as it's the original one, then it should have VTEC. OF course there is a dramatic difference between your d16 and your buddies H22, but you should still hear, and feel when VTEC engages in your car.
Good luck.

Sounds like you're in for a repaint.

SOHC VTEC isn't going to throw you back in your seat. Turn your radio off, turn the air off, roll the windows up and don't let anyone in the car talk. Now get the car up to ~56000 rpm and you'll hear a very slight change in sound. That's VTEC.
Before you go for the repaint, try a polish to see if you can get rid of the marks left behind. If not, take it a body shop and see if they can try to hit it with a buffer and take care of it. If it got deep into the clear, then it's toast unfortunately.
I don't about the ingredients, but i had silly string sprayed all over my car. I washed most of it off within an hour but was to lazy to get some spots. It baked in the az sun. I sprayed simple green on and had to pick at it with my finger nail. The paint was discolored underneath.

Yeah I think it might be totally screwed. I used a friends buffer yesterday and a bunch of Groit's cleaning products and it barely helped.
So now the question is how much does a basic repaint cost? What are some pointers I should know about it?
Thanks for the help guys, wish me luck.

Oh man, that sucks...You're friends owe you big. For a repaint, it really varies depending on where you go...Maaco is cheap, but they often will not prep the car at all (especially on those $300 jobs). You can pay more and have them prep it, but don't expect perfection. At a reputable shop, you're looking at probably 2-4k depending on how in depth they go and how much bodywork you want done. I would do some research on different options before diving in. If you're handy, you can do some of the prep yourself, like taking parts off or scuffing surfaces, but if you don't do that right you'll only make more work for the paint shop.
**** luck man!
