Car: 1997 Honda Accord LX

Does anyone know if the heat shield covering the headers is needed in this car? It doesn't seem like there is too much stuff around the headers that they could melt or damage.

Trying to clean up my engine bay a little bit, and it would look a lot nicer in there w/o a big rusty shield covering my headers.

What else did you have to take off to get the heat shield off? I tried unbolting it, and there was something blocking it, but I didn't know what it was, so I didn't mess with it too much.

As rusty as your heat shield is, the cast iron rusted manifold underneath is uglier.

word. with a stock manifold, the only reason i would take off my heat shield is to clean it up and put it back on.

the oxygen sensor is in the way.

You can unplug the sensor and still get it off, you dont have to take the sensor out of the manifold though.

I wouldn't take it off. The reason why it's there is to keep your engine from getting all the heat from the headers. I would say leave it on if you don't want your car sucking in hot air.
