Icon2 ECU?

Was looking to chip the ecu in my 1997 Honda Accord LX; it's the stock computer that came in it. What I was wondering is which one would be best to put in there if I plan on chipping it. Would it be the P12?

You can't chip your stock OBD2 Accord ECU like you can the OBD1 Civic/Integra ECUs. As well you don't chip it with a P12 chip. Not sure if there is such a thing? Are you referring to a P13 Prelude ECU???

Anywho, Once an OBD1 (P06, P28, P72 etc..etc..) ECU is preped (aka socketed) you would then install an EEPROM chip. Once the chip and a few other resistors and capacitors are added to the ECU. That is when you would load (buffer) a P13 base map (or whatever one suits your current engine) onto the chip using tuning software like eCtune, Crome or whatever else is out there now.

After you have the map loaded into the chip and you have the car running you take it to a tuner to have it tuned.

Here are a couple good links with pertinent reading material.

You'rs a Non VTEC motor, so you'll need to find a chip-able Non-VTEC ECU to be able to use it. I believe its the P06? Not familiar with Non VTEC ECUs.

It's not neccessary for him to get a Non VTEC ECU. He could get a VTEC ECU and disable VTEC via tuning software. That way if he ever decides to do a VTEC head swap or motor swap he already has the ECU. He would only have to enable VTEC threw the software.

I'm using a P72 VTEC ECU w/IABs for my Non VTEC SOHC non IAB build. You would be surprised at what you can do with the VTEC and IAB wires. I am configuring my VTEC output to operate a second set of injectors. Instead of operating the VTEC solenoid. Pin A4 will connect to pin 85 on a relay that will control the second set of injectors.
