Default Wastegate question Cant post in "Forced Induction"

I already tried posting in forced induction and it wont let me for some reason. OK. just putting on my rev hard kit i bought from turbo-kits.com I have the wastegate mounted to the manifold and was wondering if it should connect anywhere else because it has another opening with 2 threaded holes or does it just blow into the engine compartment? any help is appreciated! Thanks.

are you talking about the opening for the downpipe? you need to either buy or fab up a pipe to vent the exhaust gases to the ground. either that or have the pipe exiting the wastegate dump into your exhaust system so it ends up coming out the tailpipe rather then in or around your engine bay.

I have it mounted to the down pipe already. the kit came with a U shape tube with a flange but i tried it every way possible and cant get it to point down. will a picture help you out a little more?

I cant figure out what that U pipe is for!

D16 does not understand what you are asking. The "extra" port you have off of the waste gate is to vent off the excess pressure in the exhaust manifold to stop spooling the turbo/limit the spool of the turbo so the desired amount of boost can be achieved. You can vent this to open air or recirculate it into the down pipe. If you go back into the down pipe then you should put it at least 18" down stream (this has been debated over and over and you could put it right at the turbo exhaust side if you wanted as well). Most people just get a 90* (or whatever your setup may require) and dump it down straight at the ground. You can leave it just venting to the under the hood but remember hot *** exhaust will be coming out of there as well; it could end up messing up the paint on your hood or damaging other things around it. It is just best to vent down towards the ground and away from things or put it back into your down pipe.

Also I just read your post, the U-Shape can again be routed into your down pipe (cutting and welding required) or you can just cut it and point it towards the ground (cutting and welding required if you have the weld on style flange that then gets bolted to the waste gate).

You think that pisses you off just wait until you hear the sound, LoL. Some people like it some people don't, you can always get a muffler for it. (If you have never heard an open waste gate tube Imagine the sound of running the motor with a turbo manifold but no turbo sitting on it. (sounds like **** IMO))

To each his own though.

don't run it to the downpipe, run it straight to the ground, open dump sounds amazing IMO, look up some vids with an open dump wastegate
