Default mini-me almost done... need help tuning

OK I just finished putting on the head and it starts and runs.
This is what I have on it so far:
D16A6 block
D16Z6 head
A6 dist
A6 intake/exhaust mani
AEM cam gear

I'm about to install a B&M command flo adjustable fuel pressure regulator and B&M fuel pres gauge. I also just bought a Apexi VAFC

My question is what should I set ignition timing at? cam timing? fuel pressure? How do you set the VAFC?

It runs but it has no power. It also idles at 1500 rpm. I'm going to check the throttle cable in the morning. But could it be the stock A6 FPR causing the comp to idle high?

last question: My head came with a vtec solenoid but no oil pressure switch. So right now theres a hole shooting out oil. I temporarily plugged the hole with a bolt. The bolt I have is not the right size though. Does anybody know what size bolt will plug that hole?

well set the cam gear in 0
time it @ 18 deg
if its still bad, move the gear just a few deg....
with that engine set the fuel press aroudn 41 psi
about the VAFC i dont know
and yes try to get a oil press swith.....

i got some questions on the mini me swap. How hard was it to do? and what kind of problems have you run into besides what you just explained here. im looking into doing it with my d15b block and a d16z6 head with y8 mainifold and head gaskit, a b16a2 throttle body, d16a1 pistons, LS rods. Ive been reading up on tech and all of these things they claim to be able to fit in the d15b block and the head, and inproves performance. but any Info on your swap would be a great use to me! thanks!

Other problems I have:
Need to fabricate a bracket for mounting dist.
(thinking of using a smaller bolt with some washers and a nut on the top mounting hole)
having a very hard time wiring and tuning VAFC

I was running at 18btc, and -6 on my cam gear. a6 block, z6 head. Intake, exhaust, wires. It ran like a beast. Im not totaly sure on the ignition timing there, there was always crazy confusion about my cam gears tdc point.

hey dork, you swaped your complete engine out for a D16z6. we are talking about just taking a Vtec head and putting it on a NON vtec block. thanks anyways.

currently i have a y8 on an a6 and ill tell you what these things are a bitch to tune

the first time i put everything together it ran good surprisingly and it spanked the hell outa EF w/ LS's

The key to these head swaps is to get the timing at TDC because with stock cam gear the timing will be off by a tooth and a half....atleast mine was

as of right now im running no vtec because i had problems with the Fields Vtec Controller and the map signal

For some reason my fuel pressure is set extremely low at 30psi if i go any higher it will foul out my plugs

My set up right now is
-2 cam
+22 ignition
30psi fp

it runs strong up to 6200 rpm
still beats full Z6 ef's

does anyone know why im limited to 6200 rpms? Did the Fields deactivate my redline? Before i would be able to go to 7500rpm but now only 6200..why?

I have a 91 A6 block with a 97 Y8 head. I'm running a B&M fpr at 32 psi, headers, AEM CAI and my beloved APEXi VAFC.
You are right about the timing and being one tooth off. That threw me the first night I started her up.
The APEXi was a must have since I am running my stock ecu right now (91 Si) though I'm looking for a Teg ecu to boost my rev limit to 7500 vs the stock 7250.
At the dyno I was putting down 125hp/111 lbs to the wheels.
As for your problem with the rev limiter, have you checked to see if you are throwing a code? Is your Fields dialed in right?

i might be a dork.. but it doesnt matter if its a Z6 head or a Z6 longblock... using that engine and runnign it with an PM6 instead of a P28,needs plenty of tunning...
its an engine designed for a diff ecu... wich its the same case with the mini me....

I no longer have a Fields but what code would cause me rev limit at 6000??
