Default Just bought my first MIG

Well I am new to welding and just bought a lincoln pro140 the other day. I have been messing around with it just trying to get the hang of welding a nice bead. The setup came with gas however I wanted to practice with flux core wire instead of wasting gas welding nothing. However most of my welds keep balling and I cant really get a nice bead. I would appreciate any help with that problem or just general advice anything will help.

3 possibilities I can think of would be not enough tension on wire feed. material not clean. Too hot. What do you mean by balling?

The gas isn't that expensive. Better to practice with the solid wire and gas.

GL!

If by 'balling up' you mean that the filler is just sitting on top of the metal and not flowing out, then it means you don't have nearly enough heat.

Remember that laying a decent looking bead with fluxcore can be difficult. MIG is more forgiving.

that is cause welding with flux sucks and doesnt compare to welding with gas, i havent seen welds that can match a gas welds, so practice with gas like mentioned above lots better and not expensive..

check your polarity, my MIG requires you to switch the polarity of the leads if you are going to use flux core instead of gas.

thanks guys. It was a combination of a few of those things actually. The polarity was incorrect and I also had to clean the metal off with a wire brush and adjust the wire speed alittle bit.
