ok guys i want to build a sohc d16z6 im kind of new to the whole sohc vtec thing but im not new to civic's i have had plenty and many b series. ok i want to see if i can build a really d16z6 but i want to see what u guy's think befor i start.....any input would be great because im kind of not sure about it

 

If you know how to chip the P28 ecu do it yourself or let someone with experience to do it for you. Set it to 7.5K-8.5K (depending on your build), I would never consider 8K+ on stock internals.

If you are going Turbo.
Turboing the D16Z6 is always a good idea. Get a Garret T3/T4 and about 8-10psi should be safe for stock internals.

But if you don't like turbo, get some decent headers and just get a good intake filter to save some money(no need to get an intake arm). Get some new cams + rods + pistons + I would consider a good exhaust (not a fart cannon).

 

20-EM2-05 what kind of turbo were you thinking? Because a .57/.6 will react different than a .54/.57 trim, etc, etc. You cant just say T3/T4.

 

I plan on building my single cam over this coming winter, at the moment I am boosted at 8 psi, but I am shooting for 350whp. So I am going with rods, pistons, cam, arp headstuds, headgasket, port n polish. Then hope that was enough to crank out 350 to the wheels.

 

ya i was kind of thinking fully built n/a but i dont know how much a d16z6 can push.........and the other route would be b18c but im kind of tired of building B's

Agreed with 1992Si. Like I said earlier, D-series has penitential when boosting. While N/A, even with a good set-up it will cost you more money out of your pocket then going boost/swap. Unless you want a good DD/Semi-Track.

Simple bolt-ons + some head work + some decent tuning. But even that can't get you running lower than 14's.

 

ya thanks for the info ill look into it more but all i can seem to find is d series turbo.....not really any good n/a setups but if i have to boost i might just do that

It just not worth the money to build an N/A D-series. The only reason to do it is to try to be different. But some people have put D17 cranks into D16 blocks, for a "OE style" stroker kit. There are also plenty of companies out there that make parts for them as well. But as the old saying goes, there's no replacement for displacement (at least for N/A). So if you're going to stick with N/A, you might as well start with a bigger engine.
