Icon6 cable gear set in a hydro tranny??

recently my friends 92 integra was put in a shop and instead of keepin the integra he is goin to swap the motor in a 97 civic but the guys at the shop said they can put the gear set of the cable tranny into a hydrolic tranny case so the tranny can work with his car...
  1. is this even possible?
  2. with a older gear set will it be safe?
  3. will any (same series) gear set fit in any casing?

the only gear set of a cable is interchangable is the ys1....its either a gsr or ls tranny....its possible but not recommended unless u have a hydro and no gears and really need to put the gears from the cable....but ur best bet is to just put a hydro tranny in and call it a day....

Only reason to do the gear swap is if the 92 gearset is a GSR, if not not even worth the hassle.

IF ITS AN LS tranny when you shift at 8,000 it will fall back in 5,200- 5,400 but the main thing is that if its an LS tranny you will know because you will fall out of vtec in 2 gear.

if its a GSR trans you will fall in about 6,000 rpm

also another way to see is that gsr trans is in 5th gear at 80mph you should be at about 5,000 rpm. ls is way lower rpm in 5th

actually i have already done this. IDK if the guy was trying to rip ur friend off or not, but I DO know that the 92-93 cable tranny internals CAN be put into a hydro case because I HAVE DONE IT...not heard about it or seen someone else do it. I have the tranny right now in my car. i bought the cable tranny for $100 bux and the hydro case for $20 bux. Not bad for a hydro tranny,, huh?

Have more info about doing this? When you bought the case, what came with the case? I'm just wondering if you retained the aluminum shift forks or if you got to use the steel shift forks?

You need to use the correct forks for the case.

92 gearset into hydro case isn't a problem, just be sure to shim the mainshaft.

I want to put the gear set from an '88-'91 D-series Cable tranny into a '92-95 or 96-00 d-series hydraulic transmission.

1/2 and FD won't work. Only 3/4/5 with modification.

Then it wasn't a GSR gear set. The cable GSR gearset fits in a hydro case and hydro gearsets fit in the YS1 case.

so is this conversion simply done by just swapping everything but the forks, i ask cuz i got a cable gsr trans with my swap i cant use but i have a blown gsr hydro sitting next to it and rather then buy a tranny put it in and end up with the typical 3rd gear grind or worse and getting the typical response of well it worked fine when it was in my car this may be worth my time.

It's in the trans case above the top mainshaft bearing. What thickness you'll need is unknown which is why you'll need to shim it.
