Ran into a problem the starter is spinning but it wont kick out. the ef hatch has a B16a2 in it. Just got a new starter. Its not the ignition switch, ground, or a fuse. Does anyone have a idea on something I should check?
seems possible the starter may be DOA. if it spins over strongly but the solenoid isn't being kicked out to engage the flywheel, then i'd say your starter is muffed.
ninja edit: you could pull the starter and bench test it to see if its functioning as it should.

are you sure its not popping out? i thought that it pops out before it spins. you should bench test it with a battery to see if it does. possibly your flywheel is stripped down but i doubt it.
well ive delt with some **** like that but it was a lawn mower i used some wd40 cus it had been sitten for a wile and some more juice the batter was bad dono if its the same but its worth a try

I have already tested it out of the car and tried 3 different starters still no luck. Its gotta be somethin else and im pretty sure its not hittin the flywheel cause it doesnt feel grooved or anything.
so when you test it out of the car does the bendix pop out like it should or no? is it possible you have the wrong starter altogether? did you ever have a starter with the b16to begin with so you can compare that to the ones you've purchased to see if they are in fact the same?

yea it pops out just like it should when i test it. i wouldnt think its the wrong starter unless they keep giving me the wrong one cause i already got 2 starters for it and both have done the same thing and they were both suppose to be for a b16a2 maybe the first one i got wasnt it and when i switched the 2nd one they gave me the same kind. maybe they were never rite in the first place. I guess thats what im gonna check next cause im out of ideas
Turn your crank to get the flywheel to rotate.
You can sometimes get away with pulling an accessory belt and it rotates.
Then try it.
If it catches then you have a flywheel problem where the teeth on the flywheel are stripped out in one spot.
If it doesn't catch, pull the starter again and check in the tranny hole to see if something is going on with the flywheel.
Measure the distance from the started mounting surface to the fly and match that up with the starter when you manually pull the pinion out and make sure you got the correct starter.
