HELP: how do I check to see if a transmission is good or bad?
I am going to buy a tranny for my 1990 integra, but I am not sure what to look for, or even if you can look for, any good or bad signs. Im looking for one with no grinds and is there anyway to tell if a tranny is good or bad if you buy it without being able to test it in a running car? Will I have to put it in my car first and then see it from there?
eh it's kind of hard to tell unless you know how a good transmission sounds like but then again, there's are variety of factor that can cause a transmission to be bad.The obvious one is if the crankshaft doesn't spin at all.Otherwise than that you pretty much have to open up the tranny and look inside for broken parts, metal shavings, etc.Other signs are cracks, holes, and signs of extreme abuse or wear.good luck. It's better to pay a good price for a working one that can be refunded than to go cheap and get ripped off.
even when you offer a 5 day warranty people are hesitant. It's not that hard to inspect a tranny by opening it up.
