ek/d16y7 A/C issues
Hi guys,
I have a 98 ek (civic dx) with the original d16y7 motor (yeah I know no vtec, but great gas mileage
).
Now that my area is finally getting some heat I've been trying to get my a/c working properly.
Last year I burnt out my compressor clutch by overcharging the system (doh!), so I ordered a new clutch and replaced it. This time I bought a low side gauge, and evac'ed enough r134a to make the clutch quit slipping. My low side pressure at least is down where it needs to be.
However, the a/c still doesn't blow very cold. You can tell that its cooling, but even in the moderately hot weather (80-90F), it just doesn't cool that much.
So my question is, does the d16y7 just have a kind of crummy/undersized a/c due to the small engine size/output, or could there be another problem, like air in the system, etc? I'd be interested to hear from other people with this engine, how cold is your a/c?

no it doesnt. i have a y7 , its pretty cold and gets the job done, with these past days that weve been in the 90s/100s everything in the ac and air areas are the same from all 96-00 civics.
have you tried re charging with fresh stuff?

well I recharged it with fresh stuff up from about 15psi static pressure, but not from a vacuum.
My suspicion is that there might be air in the system, in which case I'll have to get my hands on a vacuum pump in order to do a ground zero evac-recharge. I may just find an a/c shop to do that if I end up trying that...
