Ice Box Intake?

"Ice Box" is a wonderful phrase for an intake system, but it's just a phrase. There is no such thing as "cold air", unless you drive around the Canadian/U.S. border in January. All that you can expect from the best intake is "ambient air" from outside the engine bay. Here in Central CA, that can be 120 degrees F. in late summer. Does "ice box" apply there? No. To get low restriction, filtered air from outside the engine bay, AFE is not the best design, and neither is K&N.
IMO, having used their products on both an '07 Sport A/T, and now on a '09 Sport A/T, the best is PRM. On the '09 Fit, the PRM intake makes almost 8.5 hp., looks fantastic, sounds great, makes power that you can feel, and costs less than most after-market intakes. AFE is OK, but gets its air from right behind the top of the radiator right next to the top rad. hose. That is NOT cold air.

Hey Manx, weren't you on Fit Freak? I would just like to know where you got your PRM intake from? The PRM website seems a little steep, just would like to know if you got it from another retailer for cheaper?

Yep- you're right about that other site, and I bought both of my PRM systems from PRM in Canada. I was the first order on the Group Buy for the '07 intake version, and the first order on the '09 A/T. Even without the group buy discount, the PRM intakes are price competitive with the other intake brands (except for the eBay knock-off garbage), and the PRM gives you better performance than any of the other intake brands.
Thanks Manx, I am contemplating getting one for my GSR motor and even one for the Fit.
I think I'll try it out with my B18C1 first and see the difference with a dyno pull.

P.s. The owner of PRM, Jerry Sica, gives the best customer service in the world- he will do anything to resolve any problems. I am not aware that ANY of the 25-30 buyers in the group buys had any objection to any of the parts in the system. My GD and GE systems were perfect, and I enjoy the performance of my GE with the PRM system every day.

manxman is right! I had an H-Fit Supa Sucka which I thought was fine; it cracked and I followed manx's lead and got the PRM from Jerry's site. What a difference! I can feel the extra power in the seat of my pants (and I'm not hysterical that way) and the sound IS awesome. When you disassemble the filter for cleaning you can see why the claim for venturi effect is made. The parts are durable, the heavy duty silicone bends will last forever, and it does suck air from adjacent to the ambient air intake port in the fenderwell better than a normal K & N style filter can. It truly has transformed my driving experience and made it a pleasure to turn the key each and every day. And hey, it's Canadian, eh?

Thanks for the back-up. The PRM Jet Stream Intake is better than most of the other intakes that are now on the market, or will ever come on the market. If you own a Fit, you can't find a better intake, regardless of cost.
