Timing belt replacement.
My friend has a 1998 intergra that needs new timing belt, the shop said it will be around $700 for the belt plus installation, I was just wondering if this was a fair price. So guys does $700 sound reasonable?
Thanks in advance.
edit- I live in California by the way.

wow I'm in the wrong profession! i made 40 bux changing my buddy's timing belt... and the belt cost him 40. the belt for your friend will cost him about the same, and then he should probably change the water pump and coolant too since you're down there (you're dumb if you don't because they'll go out like clockwork as soon as you replace the belt)
so for around 100 dollars your friend could do it them selves... and spend the extra 600 on some nice rims or something.
just a thought

The timing belt snapped while driving so there is more work to be done then just put it on right. You have to adjust the timing also, is that hard?
oh lol my bad
nah. you set cylinder number one to tdc (you can use a screw driver to help show you where that's at), then the timing belt covers should have marks showing where to align the cam gears so they are perfectly aligned (a Chilton's/ other shop manual can explain better than i can). then you put the timing belt on, tighten down the tensioner and call it good. search around in here, there should be a thread on how to adjust the valves. same for setting the ignition timing. sorry i can't be more help here, i only know about single slam obd0 motors, and don't want to give out bad info.
My advice still would be to tackle the job if you're a gear head, you'll probably have to replace the head, so a trip to the j/y would be in order. still cheaper, but that's up to you. up here head's cost about 50 bux plus core, and head gaskets are cheap too, so for maybe 200 you could have her car up and running.
HOWEVER if you and your friend decide to take the car to the shop any ways (not a problem if you don't feel comfortable doing work your self or she'd rather pay to have it fixed) make sure that the price they give you is a set price, and that they wont be able to sucker you into hidden fee's. good luck!
