Icon2 1992 Accord No start/spark! Help!

My sisters 92 accord auto isn't getting any spark. None at the external coil or at the distributor. Replaced the external coil already and the cap/rotor along with the main relay. Nothing still.

Next thing i could think of is the ICM inside the distributor itself that is bad...but wouldn't i still get spark from the external coil then since they're different units?

Also wondering if it could be the crank sensor too...but wouldn't that trick a check engine light?

Before, it died all of a sudden coming off the express way. Waiting a few mins and it started back up again. Noticed the tachometer was jumping irratically too. Checked all grounds and they all seem to be alright.

It died once again after going to Walmart in the parking lot. Again waited and tapped the distributor and she cranked right over...weird.

The car turns over alright like its going to start, but just no spark for compression. Also i noticed when i pulled out the distributor, i spung the shaft on the dizzy and it felt like the rotor was rubbing at one point on the new cap. Is that normal? I should spin freely right?

One last thing, the distributor can only fit one way right when reinstalling? The accords aren't a 180 degree distributor right?

Please help! Wasting too much money on this thing trying to figure it out!

Thanks all!

instead of replacing the coil and internal parts in the distributor i would just buy a new distributor and call it a day, thats what i did and even if it was a 180 degree distributor it wouldnt start if you were 180 off, at least it wouldnt start for me when i was off, and the rotor is not supposed to rub at any point on the cap that is just gonna make matters worse for you so maybe the cap is on kind of crooked.

So the distributor IS a 180 dizzy? Would that effect the spark issue? Yeah i thinkin' bout getting a new dizzy but just want to make sure wtf the problem is cause i don't wanna toss away another 250 bucks

you can always return the dizzy its not hard to put on you can do this in like 10 mins. if it doesnt do anything than just return the dizzy. ya if its 180 off nothing will work in time with the spark and the fuel so if its 180 off just take out the dizzy and spin the gear 180 degrees put it back in and try starting it again, you might have to give it a little gas to keep it running for a while but it will idle by itself after burning off any excess fuel.

If the distributor is turned 180 then that will cause it to not have spark at all also?

you said that there is no spark in compression? if there is no sparks, your car would not even start at all. check the air flow if its running good. see if the air filter is dirty or not. maybe it would also be the spark plugs wires. how long have you changed out those spark plugs? maybe those are going bad and need a replacement.

even if the spark plugs were pretty crappy it would at least hiccup or try to start but as far as the starter goes does it even crank over the engine?

civicboisi,

Your ignitor needs to be replaced ($70-$80). Hopefully its been repaired by now.

1. if it cranks, its not the starter! 2. when you crank it does the rotor on the dizzy turn? 3. if it doesn't turn you may of broke or popped the timing belt off. 4. If it does turn then you might have it 180 off if you originally took the dizzy off and didn't put it back right once you replaced the new parts, coil, ignitor, etc. The dizzy's on these accords went out alot and in my experience replacing the ignitor never worked for me, I always replaced the entire dizzy and that worked. Plus the shaft in these always got loose and would leak oil internally and would not work correctly or at all...
