Default running on bad axle

Okay, so i have been running on a bad driverside axle for about a month. Whenever i turn the wheel left just the slightest it starts clucking like crazy. The problem I dont have money to replace it right now. My question to u guys is how long will i be able to ride on a bad axle for? Im scared it might snap on me. Thanks in advance.

If there's clean grease and the boot's not torn you can drive on it a pretty long time. Just don't aggravate it by accelerating hard in turns. Should be ok to romp on it a little when going straight though. Replacement axles are like $99 at autozone/checker with a core. Not too expensive.

Just a word of caution and a hint to just get it fixed... I've known three guys in different parts of N.C. who got pulled for improper equipment due to the buckling noise. They had to get the work done immediately and then show by demonstration that the repair work was done. My '88 (purchased new) has had them replaced twice. Each time when I started hearing the buckling, I replaced both so I wouldn't have any worries. Knock on wood -- my '88 has never left me stranded.

Yea, my axle is so bad that it actually Deflects the steering wheel onturns. The aligmnt shop said that I have to fix my alignant issues on my lowered car first though because it's so far out out that it's pulling the boots on my axles. I plan on getting an adjustable a-arm bolt kit .Don't forget to check that too.

If you have a Kragen, Checkers, or what ever the other regional store is called they have axle drive shafts for 69.99 no core charge. I just picked my left one up friday. These are actually pretty easy to replace, i have done 2 on the right over the life of the 5 gen and this will be the 2nd one i have done on the left. If you have ever replaced the suspension ( lowered the lude) this is pretty easy to get to and replace yourself.

As for driving on it. i have been driving on the left one with a torn boot and most of the greese gone, for about 8 months now, ( too lazy to repair) and it hasnt started to click yet...
