Anyone ever made their own side moldings?
With any sort of relative success?
I mean, molding material is everywhere...
The stock ones with are way too fat, shaved is too ugly, filled holes is too odd...
you get the picture.

well i've got to say probably not many if any have done this. but if you're serious then try modifying your stock ones because the mounting points would be pretty hard to make from scratch.
another thing to consider is that the bumpers have the profile of the belt molding on them so they wouldn't match your custom ones.
are your aware ther are three diiferent profiles of belt molding available, usdm 88-89, 90-91, and jdm, again your original bumpers wouldn't match these.

I know some racers that just replace the side moldings with black vinyl. From 10 feet away you can't really tell a difference. I have seen the red car pictured below for a year or two and never noticed the vinyl until recently! I'll probably do the same to my car at some point.

Unless you're looking for it you would likely never notice.
Still... I wouldn't go ripping off perfectly good moldings. But it's a great option and better than buying new ones.
