Nope, the JDM climate control is a *real* climate control in that it has sensors that regulate the temperature. It is all-electric while the USDM climate control is mechanical/electric driven. On the bottom of the USDM control, you'll see a cable attached to a lever that controls your thermostat (thus, mechanical). The JDM CC doesn't have this cable.
You have a couple of options if you want a JDM climate control to match your JDM interior:
- do the whole conversion right by getting JDM heater core, sensors, wiring, etc. Expensive, hard to find all of the parts, and difficult to do, but it's been done. I think someone has done a writeup on the web. Might be easier if you're going to install a RHD dash (are you doing a RHD conversion too?)
- swap the faceplate of your USDM climate control with the JDM and install an orange bulb. Easy, but expensive and kind of a waste of a perfectly good climate control unit. Obviously, most people go this route.
- you could also JDM-ize your USDM climate control a couple of ways...either 1) put 2 orange bulbs in there and call it a day or 2) do it the right way and put amber plastic sheeting from a tail lamp repair kit inside the USDM CC face and leave the stock bulbs in. This way you leave the red/blue temp graphics clear but amber everything else. You'll avoid running an orange light behind the red/blue temp graphics, making it look like @ss. I did this and posted a thread about it awhile back.
