Icon6 Diagnostic Port on 1996 Sedans ??

Girlfriend's Civic LX Sedan is having problems. I am looking for the diagnostic port to get the CEL codes, but can't find the port. I do not see anything near the ECU in the pass. side kick panel. Don't have my Helms with me, so I'm asking for some help. I've searched, but was unable to find anything.

Thanks,
Ken

Under the driver-side dash near the hood release handle.

Do I need to remove the kick panel piece to see it?

No. You need to put your head below the dash to see it.

Sorry, I thought you wanted to plug in an OBDII scan tool. If you want to jump the service connector and count CEL blinks, then go back to the passenger side and remove the kick panel. The 2P service connector is located above the ECU and may be inserted into a rubber casing. Click here.

Car will not start, just cranks and cranks. But thanks, I would otherwise do that.

Does the fuel pump prime for 2 seconds when the key is turned to ON(II)?

Do you have bright spark at the plugs?

I can feel the fuel pump prime for the 2 seconds. I haven't checked spark yet, is there a simple way to do that?

Only code it gives me is a 41, which I've known about for a while. The primary O2 sensor needs to be replaced. I waited 3 cycles; no other codes are reported.

Did you already check whether the timing belt snapped?

New cap and rotor installed as well as new fuel filter. Still no go.

Checking spark today, as soon as I get some things I need from my house. Timing belt appears to be intact; roller rockers are moving. But I will check it for skipped teeth.

Thanks for the link Ron.

If you lack spark, have the coil and ICM tested. If you have spark and fuel, then the timing belt may have slipped.

OK, update. Coil was bad. Got a new (used) coil from a friend, installed it, and then attempted again. Engine caught for maybe one second, then died again. Previously the engine would not catch at all. Turned key again, nothing but cranking. Is it possible that a distributor can kill a coil?

The used coil I got was in a distributor also from a sohc. However I didn't just bolt up the replacement dizzy because the legs were 180 degrees oppsoite of what is on the car. From what other years/cars can I get a distributor that will fit a non-vtec 96 D16y7?

Ken

Timing belt is holding and is in place.

Do you lack spark? Is the fuel pump still priming?

Did you have both the coil and ICM tested by an auto parts store? When the coil is bad, the ICM typically isn't far behind.

Do you measure battery voltage at the Blk/Yel wire in the distributor?

Thanks Ron, I'll run those checks when I get home.

I had the coil tested, but all Autozone said they could check for was if electricity flowed through it. My friends checked it with their meter, and it was not in spec per Helms manual. I'll check the "new" coil tonight and see if it is within spec. If it is, I'll then check the ICM, and so on,
