Default Car Stuttering and Hood Smoking

Help!

So I ran a few errands, and leaving the last place...I noticed my car was fluttering and wasn't accelerating normally. So I turned off my AC (had AC problem, but fixed), and it still persisted. My car was literally sounding like a lawn mower. Luckily, the drive was only about 5 minutes to home, so I pulled in the driveway and began to smell smoke or burning oil. Look up, and smoke is coming out of my hood. I popped it open and the smoke seemed to be coming from top part near intake manifold. When I came to a stop, I made sure to rev it up just in case it quit running.

Car has an oil leak, but it's minimal and I just filled it up less than a week ago.
AC had been running fine.

Cliffs:
-Car all of a sudden starts to stutter and flutter, though it would eventually make it through all gears. Most notably < 3k rpms.
-Hood smoking when shut off engine.

TIA!!!

Thanks, I'll check those...

Nothing out of the ordinary. Came out of a store, started it up, and drove home. LOL. I had made two stops before this, and everything was fine. All of a sudden, I turn onto the road, and I noticed it not accelerating properly.

Smoke came from hood, not exhaust.

well check to see if your oil level is fine... maybe oil change, check your radiator to see if there is water... maybe it may have overheated and the guage wasnt reading correctly... are you throwing any cels?

-Oil appeared fine. Oil level was fine.
-Radiator was lime greenish like usual.
-No CELs.
-Unplugged EGR valve just in case, and made no difference.
-I've started it up a few times since, and same problem. Gauge is fine.

maybe one of your spark plugs is bad. check to see if there is oil in them if so you have a bad o ring.. check rotor and dizzy cap. maybe one of the wires is bad.

Engine looks like its mis-firing; double check your wires going to and from the dizzy. Mine mis-fired because one of the wire came loose that the distributor. You sure the oil filter is tight? I can't think of anything else besides the oil filter and oil dripping on the downpipe causing it to smoke because there's nothing on the back of the motor that would do such a thing besides the oil presssure sensor.

Update:

Played around with the spark plugs....one of the cylinders (nearest driver side) must have something wrong with it, or could it be anything with the injector? Reason is...pulled the spark plugs out, all the plugs were fine, but when we pulled the last plug off the valve cover (and the other end on the distributor), the engine made no different sound than with it on. We pulled the plugs out (and switched) just to make sure the plug itself was working. So I would think that cylinder must have something wrong with either internally or something that's feeding to it.

So I'm going to call a mechanic and see if he can look at it after work tomorrow and get a compression test and see what else he thinks it might be if the compression is okay. Any ideas what to look for next given the new information?

Sum it up...just alot of back pressure it feels like. once you get over the 4k rpm hump, it seems "better," but that in itself is a feat, hence the go-kart type acceleration.

sounds to me like you have a bad spark plug wire... when is the last time you did a tune up?
