Post loose clutch pedal/ cannot shift into gear

about 30 mins ago i got in my car and noticed that the clutch pedal was really loose like as if there was no cable connected. Im thinking maybe the cable broke or is stretched. And because of the clutch i cant shift into gear, therefore my car is not able to go anywhere. If anyone has experienced this before or know whats the problem with my clutch please inform me with what i can do or how i can fix this problem. Im also concerned about towing my car to the shop, was wondering if that will be necessary... sigh* such bad luck

Have you tried adjusting the cable where it goes into the lever? It can be tightened down more and you can also adjust it with the pedal.

What kind of vehicle?

First check the cable and its free play at the transmission. It should have about 1/4" free play, otherwise adjust accordingly. Also have another person inspect the cable's movement at the transmission while you step on and off the pedal. Next check underneath the dash and inspect the clutch pedal. Make sure the clutch pedal hasn't begun to break off from the pedal assembly and that the cable itself is still attached to it.

I forgot to ask, are you able to shift into the gears while the car is off?

Clutch is not disengaging for some reason.
1) Either one of your clutch cylinders could be bad or needs bleeding.
2) Release bearing could be destroyed.
3) Piece of your clutch disc could have broken off and lodged between the pressure plate fingers causing it not to function properly.
4) You need a new pressure plate
