Default N00b swap problems.

So i just finished swapping a b16a2 into my 98 civic lx, the engine came with a chipped p28 ecu, along with the SI wiring harness, and an OBD2b to OBD1 conversion harness.

Im fairly new at swapping engines, but i had my buddy help me, he claimed he knows a lot about swaps, said it wouldn't be too difficult, turns out hes not as experienced as he lead me to believe, and now we have problems.

I dont really know how to explain the problem, i mean the engine ran like a champ in the car it was previously in, which is why i dont understand why it just doesnt work now, obviously user error.

So the engine will turn over, after giving it a little gas, it wont start right up to idle, after giving it gas for a bit, it will finally settle down and idle, but if you give it any more gas it seems to be starving for fuel, and just bogs down and almost shuts off.

The fuel pump is on, and the injectors are primed, you can hear them both.
Im pretty sure we have every sensor and plug hooked up.

I just need to know what could have caused this, both cars ran fine before this swap.

I was told to check the fuel pump relay, which is the main relay right?
How would i know if that was bad or going bad?

Also i was told to check the TPS sensor, again, how would i know if it was bad?

Any other information as to the cause of this problem would be very helpful.

Thanks guys.

did you upgrade the fuel pump? i think d series cars pump had 75lph (litres per hour) and the b series cars came with a pump that could pump 135lph

i believe it was something like that

I had heard something to that extent, but i wasnt sure, none of my "tuning" buddies have mentioned upgrading the fuel pump.

My friends dad is like a master mechanic, he seems to think its something to do with the ECU, but hes an old school kind of guy, prefers carburetors and muscle cars, he doesnt know much about fuel injection.

So should i look into upgrading it?

Hah well i guess all there are is 255lph.
But it says its ideal for boost, super charged, and nitrous.
Im not doing any of that.

Again, im a n00b at this stuff.

So please reassure me, the walbro 255lph pump will work just fine?

well as for thinking about replacing the fuel pump I would say hold that thought. When I first did a motor swap I was using the old fuel pump.

When you rev the car does it go pass 5k rpms? is it idling kinda high? Does it turn off aftewards? if so then your tps and map sensor plugs should be switched around. They look the same. Try and switch them around and see if that helps.

Adjust or check your tps sensor. Have a volt meter ready and adjust it to 500-900ohms I believe. Heres a video

Another question: who or where did you buy this motor from? it may not be legit meaning he could have swapped out the injectors or what not

No, the car wont rev past 3k, but when it idles it sounds like normal, and it doesnt turn off until you turn off the car.

But i will double check all the sensors and especially the tps and map sensor.

Deff be checking the tps sensor though.

I got the engine from a friend of mine, as far as i know, he didnt swap out anything on it.
