worth it to fix?

Default worth it to fix?

took my trans into the shop and it needs all new bearings because they are rusted. it is going to cost $550. seems like a lot to me. what do you guys think?

There's a teardown and rebuild thread with pics of a B-series tranny on here... it's actually kinda simple. You can buy the bearings and seals and diy for half the price.

Yup, bearings might run you anywhere from about 200-300, the rest is for the labor. You can DIY, just take ur time.

My ? is how your bearing got rusted? maybe there just worn. If you pull the tranny apart try to spin the bearings, if you feel resistance to spin they are worn.

If the bearings are rusted, the trans is junk.

well the trans got rusty from sitting outside for over a year under a tarp full of holes. didn't read this thread in time to know i could have done it myself so i took it to the shop and i'm picking it up tomorrow. thanks for the infos though

Bearings are steel. Gears are steel. Steel will rust when it comes into contact with water. The bearings were rusted. The gears...

You're either getting a trans back with rusted gears or the shop pulled a fast one on you.

well the owner and my dad know each other fairly well and he's pretty reliable so we will see
