worth it to fix?
took my trans into the shop and it needs all new bearings because they are rusted. it is going to cost $550. seems like a lot to me. what do you guys think?
There's a teardown and rebuild thread with pics of a B-series tranny on here... it's actually kinda simple. You can buy the bearings and seals and diy for half the price.
Yup, bearings might run you anywhere from about 200-300, the rest is for the labor. You can DIY, just take ur time.
My ? is how your bearing got rusted? maybe there just worn. If you pull the tranny apart try to spin the bearings, if you feel resistance to spin they are worn.
good luck

Bearings are steel. Gears are steel. Steel will rust when it comes into contact with water. The bearings were rusted. The gears...
You're either getting a trans back with rusted gears or the shop pulled a fast one on you.
