Default White knuckle drive when windy?

Does anyone else have this issue when driving on the interstate on a windy day. I will not let go of the steering wheel because of how much the car moves when it is windy. I'm not talking about hurricane wind or anything just wind gusts of maybe 15 to 25 mph. I have a base 09 Fit but was wondering if I dropped it an inch would it help with this issue. I know it will still move some but this is a bit much.

The car is very light and there is quite a bit of surface area on the sides. Stiffer suspension will help it handle better but I don't think it will change the movement in the wind any.

you get used to it. i drive 52 miles, 50 of them highway, each day and when i drive my wifes' fit you can REALLY feel the wind. but it just takes a little getting used to. it's pushed me into the other lane maybe once if that, but i'm not talking all the way over, just a little over the line. you just have to pay more attention than usual.

i'm trying to think of what could really help.. maybe, this is a stretch, but slightly wider offset tires may help, but then the car would "track" the road, so you'd get the same feeling without wind..

All cross wind sensitivity in my '07 Sport went away after I added the rear anti-sway bar made by The Progress Group in Anaheim, CA. The '09 Sports come with a rear anti-sway bar, but the Base models don't have the bar.

Progress is working on an add-on RSB for the '09 Sports. This will be used in addition to the bar that is already on the car, and add even more anti-sway stiffness to the rear axle. I placed my order with Progress for the bar last year, and it is supposed to be released to the market in another month or so.

Now, for the OP with a Base '09, I don't have any idea whether or not the new bar from Progress will help. It will probably fit, but it won't give the drastic improvement that the RSB did on the GD3's. The reason for this is that the add-on bar for the '09 Sports will not be as stiff as the GD3 bar- it is meant to supplement the stock RSB on the '09s, and would be too weak to make much difference if it were used alone instead of in combination with the stock bar.

If Progress feels that there is a large enough market to make a strong, stand alone RSB for the GE8 Base models, then they probably will do it. But don't hold your breath.

OP, if you see any other manufacturer advertising a rear anti-sway bar for Base GE8's (a good company like T1R), my suggestion would be to buy it. The Progress bar for the GD3's made a HUGE improvement in handling, and a good quality RSB that is made specifically for the Base GE would greatly reduce, if not eliminate entirely, wind instability.

Install your own Progress RSB, and your "it is inevitable" opinion will change.

You may be in luck- I just finished a phone call with the inside sales Mgr. at The Progress Group (Joey Berry). He says that the add-on rear sway bar for the '09 Fit Sport will be released in about 3 weeks.

This bar will also fit the Base models. I feel that since this bar is meant to work in conjunction with the existing factory RSB that comes on the Sport, it will probably not be effective enough when used by itself on the Base model (that does not have the factory RSB). I may be wrong. Joey seems to think that their bar will work for both the Sport and the Base, but I don't see how that will be possible. Once the Progress bar is on the market, interested parties (like you) can press the issue, and get more info. on whether or not this bar will be effective on the Base Fit.
