Are final drives interchangeable between the VX and HF transmission?
Seems to be difficult to come across an answer to this. Is it possible to put a CRX HF final drive into a VX tranny? IS it a direct fit?
Thanks for anyone with info.

The Ring gear is the same but the countershafts are different. The 88-91 HF C/S is shorter than the 92-95 VX and has a shorter bearing section for the 1st gear.
I thought the HF was a 2.95 final? Have a car with an extremely low Cd and need something taller than the 3.25 vx. I have a feeling, there is no easy solution.
HF was 2.95 for 88, 3.25 for 89-91
What tranny do you have, cable or hydro???
What FD are you looking for?
I likely have the cheap parts.

I have a CX hydro. The goal was to bring 5th gear down to 2000-2100 @ 70 mph. The car has a super low drag coefficient.

Happiest at 3000 rpm.

As I stated before, this is a civic with an ultra low drag coefficient. The Cd is .17, stock is .34. The body has been heavily modified and uses very little hp to maintain a 70-80 mph cruise. The car currently has achieved a 91 hwy mpg and average between daily city and hwy regular driving is 70 mpg.
I'm currently preparing a vtec-e and would like a taller gear so it doesn't drop out of leanburn. I may be tuning this thing to get around that if there is no affordable way to raise the gear. Thanks

I had a customer recently whom I installed a HF 2.95 tranny in. He went from a consistent 44 mpg to 51, just with a tranny swap. This was a 91 hatch. He apparently know how to keep it loaded under closed loop in all conditions.
vacuum gauge is a big help.
My D15B7 was tuned lean + timing above 10" of vac, below that it went back to near stock maps.
It had a bad habit of sucking up to trucks in a draft, I mean lift off the gas, which leans out and adds more timing and it would keep pulling, you had to time the slingshot around the truck.

Ahhh, clever tactics.
I tune my cars roughly the same, normally cross over stoich around 10-11 in/hg, the exception being my personal car that doesn't appreciate very lean afr's. Somehow, with the ITR gearbox, it still manages 34-35 on the hwy.

Wait a ****ing minute.............
you are talking about SOHC CX/VX/HF gearboxs and now running a ITR box?
DUDE, WTF??

The original question I had was regarding a CX/VX gearbox, a customers vehicle, which we have established there is nothing we can do to change.
My personal vehicle's gearbox is an ITR, different car, and yes the 5th gear sucks in it also.
Thanks for your help.
