automotive design colleges???
Not so much as to what colleges are best (in a name that is), but what you do while you are there. If you are wanting to get a job with an OEM automaker, getting into Formula SAE and Mini Baja are extremely helpful with your skills and look great on resumes. Another huge thing is Co-Oping with these OEMs.
But to be honest, get a job as an aerospace engineer or something with the govt. Auto design, etc. isn't the best field to be getting into and nor does it pay all that great.

yeah i have thought of many different things i would want to do but in the end i just thought of what i loved most and being under a car all greased up is what i enjoy. but ill keep my eyes and ears open any advice
DeAnza College in Cupertino, Ca. has a great Automotive Technology program. It's recognized as one of the best in the nation. There are three one-year-long programs. One which covers engine theory, engine machining, and high performance engine preparation. One that covers electronics, fuel injection, and diagnostics. And one that covers anything chassis related such as brakes, suspension, and transmissions. Many successful people have come out of this program including BMW tuner Steve Dinan.
I would suggest you get an AS degree from DeAnza in one of the three areas and then transfer to San Jose State or Stanford and study Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
If you did this you would be far more qualified than any other engineering student who is trying to get into the automotive performance industry.

AS from De Anza (although not in the Auto Tech Prog) then BS in engineering from SJSU, and have been doing mechanical engineering design for the past 12 yrs.
Just wish I did it in the automotive industry.
Nevertheless, I think De Anza is a great start for anyone - Automotive Technology or not.
