one heck of a ride at the track today
today a few buddies and I went to a test and tune , one of my buddys just got a set of used lensos and 24.5 in MH slicks of a guy, so he was excited about getting to run slicks for the first time. well we made a few passes and i decided to rotate my slicks to even the wear and we decided to swap slicks for a pass or 2 just to see if mine worked better for him and vice versa. well we go up and race, the pass started out like normal all the gears hit like butter and im in 4th coming up on the 1000 ft when BOOM the left front blows out at 133 mph this made the front drop down and the right fron cut into the fender and BOOM!! it blows out to i cross the finish line at 133+ mph on two blown slicks.. needless to say it wasnt easy keeping in straight but i did. the only damage aside form both slicks being wasted is a little chipped paint on my fender and one of my dump tubes got dented from the front dropping to the rims. and the kicker is its about the only pass we didnt get on video all day
any way i ended up just letting him run my slicks the rest of the day, the slicks he got didnt look that bad , they had a few minor nicks from the old owner possibly touch his fender on then while braking but surely nothing that made me afraid to run them. moral of the story be careful when buying used slicks and not knowing the history or the true condition of them, looks can be deceiving.

you mean to cause the issue? i dont think so , at least looking at them it shows no sign of them moving at all. who knows they could have been layed on a garage floor on a puddle of some sort of solvent and then just cleaned up before sold, the solvent would have easily softened and weakened the side wall. hard to tell we thought maybe they expanded and grew enough to touch my fender but i had the ride height up where my old 24.5s never touched. we gave up guessing what happened and are just happy im unharmed and im happy my car is to, i remember thinking to my self as i fought to keep it out of the wall " man you better not scratch this **** or you will be pissed" now thinking back i should have been more worried about scratching my self lol I have always been blessed with a cool head under pressure when things like this happen to me, heck i remember once many years ago riding with a buddy who lost control of the car we was in when we got ran off the road and i reached over and took control over from him and got it back straight from the passenger seat lol .

i kept using stock axles for a really long time, figured it was easier to replace axles than come up with 1500 dollars for dss 5.9s. well one night i ended up breaking an axle at the top of third gear and went straight for the wall,i dont know how i kept control of the car or kept it off the wall considering i had a welded dif. needless to say the following monday i found the cash and ordered those damn axles lol.
good luck with the car and hopefully nothing like this happens to you again.

Glad to hear you are ok bro. Sounds scarry....
So, now let's talk tire.... lol
You need to set your suspension to each set of tires. Each tire has a different roll out measurement thus requiring suspension tweaks here and there. It's not uncommon to see one tire .5" to even 1.0" difference in rollout. Check and match lot number on slicks too. Keep lot number that are the same together as a pair.
Again, glad to see you're ok.

thanks guys
and tepid you are so right. and we should mention that the rim width can affect the tire as well. his was on lensos mine was on bogarts .

i woulda had a vid of the race but it just happened to be the pass my GF didnt record! i think i had made about 3-4 passes on them before craig try em out. we both did our burnouts, staged, then took off. about halfway down the track i look over in the other lane and i see a HUGE cloud of smoke erupt from craigs car. i coulda sworn he blew his motor, it didnt look as tho he was losing controll of the car, he was going straight as normal so i never thought of the slicks blowing. i pulled over on the opposite side after the finish and seen what had happened. well, heres the aftermath!!!
it looks as tho the tire somehow grabbed the tab on both sides of the fender lip and made a precise cut around the sidewall as the tire rotated .... THANK GOD the driver wasnt injured and was able to drive away unscaved... he's one LUCKY S.O.B. LOL
wow I agree with everyone else man I am glad you are ok man.
I noticed lastnight as my times keep getting slower that my slicks are in need of being swapped out, and I ordered them already.
how did the wear bars on the slicks look??????

wear bars had plenty left. its a mystery, we dont know if my fenders sliced the tires before or after they blew out, they def rubbed my fenders once blown thats for sure my paints all nicked up in the fenders
he didnt know, i kept it under control and got off the track with very little time delay so im sure most of the line crew never even knew what happened. i pulled onto the first return road after seeing the car was ok and they kept racing.
