hard wire Ipod directly to speakers?!?!
so i had another stereo stolen out of my car. and now instead of buying another one i had a idea of hardwiring my ipod directly to the speakers. does anyone know how to do this? thanks
what if you took a crappy pair of headphones and cut the wire, stuck the jack in the ipod then stripped the 2 wires that went to the head phone speaker and wired it to your car speakers.... hahahahaha. with an amp...? do it.

You would have to wire the speakers to amp and then wire ipod to amp with stereo/rca wire. Also have to wire a switch to control power on the amp because no headunit to turn it on. Might work good but easier to just buy a headunit with ipod controls.
ya i thought about the headphone idea as well. im not sure everything i will need. and ya i hit up google for a bit but didnt find much. it seems i need sum more knowledge about it. im not the best wit stereo stuff. are you sure im goin to need a radio to even play the ipod?
You will need some way of powering the speakers. You can get a cheap head unit that either has an auxilary input or use an FM modulator. Your other option is to get a cheapy amp and hook up the ipod straight to that. You could mount the amp under the seat or somewhere else where it is hidden to reduce chance of theft. Headphones in a car is illegal and not too safe.
Just get a cheap 2 channel amp ($20-50) and mount it behind the glovebox or under your front seat, Then run an rca cable from the ipod to the amp, hook up the speakers and leave the center radio console empty.
Seriously, look up DICE. It installs into your car, plugs into a jack on the back of your stock radio and then you can put your iPod in your glove box or center console or such.
You can then control the iPod through your stock radio. Then when you're not in the car, bring the iPod with you.
It does take a few minutes to get used to how you use the stock radio to control the iPod.
No need for an aftermarket headunit, some sort of ghetto install or having to change the radio station settings when you drive far from home (I've had an FM transmitter too and it was a pain in the ***).

ok. thanks for all the advice.ill probably look for a cheap amp or cheap radio and hook it up from there, then check out that DICE thing. thanks
i want to try the same thing, but i have a problem.
i have the stock radio, but for some reason it doesnt work. it lights up, but doesnt turn on. is it broken? or is something just wired wrong.

It's an old *** aftermarket head unit, this is how they were detachable back in the day.
I think that headunit was made in like 86. Most 80s/early 90s headunits were like that.
Search ebay for one or the junkyard they are farily cheap but not common anymore.

If you arnt worried about playing cd's you can get a tape player, and then just get a tape adapter where you can plug any cd/mp3/ipod to. I doubt anyone would want to jack a cassette player
