Urgent Question. VTEC perhaps Broken.. AHHHHHHHH HELP! :(
Ok, This is the first time I have every been confused by anything on my car. I was on the highway and downshifted in second @ 45 mph and took it to redline (Relined the car). Now my car is not working properly. When I am in 1st-5th gear my car will not budge above 4000 RPM. This makes no sense is there a switch or something that may be reset or a fuse that has been blown? I have redlined my car before and it’s been fine. It makes no sense because 1) No alert light is on(Including check engine or maintenance needed) 2) The car drives completely normal until around where VTEC kicks in 3) No smell or leaks coming from engine. If anyone knows what the heck is going on please help it’s an emergency.

ecu not letting vtec engage, multiple reasons for this (none i remember) but goes something along the lines of 1) possible low coolant pressure 2) low oil 3) engine not up to temperature etc... someone else will answer a bit better, but your vtec is not "broken"

I down shift to 2nd from 40 - 45 quite frequently in my hybrid.. never had a problem like that... Just check your levels like he said.. could be something obvious that your just over looking
.. good luck man!

Does it sound like a big engine damage? or hard to fix my self. I am going outside to check my engine now. I still not sure whats going on. If VTEC is not engaged should I not be able to go past 4000 RPM because it does not let me
My friend has a JDM SiVTEC and the vtec solenoid broke on it and he was waiting on a new one, the car still drove normally but in "safe" mode, which meant he couldnt rev it over 6krpm, so there is obviously some ecu problem stopping the car from revving over 4k, i cant think of any engine problem that would cause this
edit: didnt see your last post: what code is the CEL showing and have you tried resetting the ECU?

Resetting the ECU is easy, just disconnect the negative battery terminal for a minute or so and let the car idle for maybe 10-15min so it can reset. As far as checking the CEL code I've seen a page on it on http://www.c-speedracing.com in their FAQ section. Hope that helps. Good luck
Check the code, and tell us the number it flashes. This will help clear up all your problems. Sounds to me like an ecu malfunction or wiring problems if you cannot rev past 4K. If vtec was not hooked up, you could still rev to 8K, vtec just wouldn't engage.
Reset the ECU. Now the Check engine light is gone but the car still does what it did before. I am going to try to take it to Honda if they are open
Sometimes it takes a minute or two for the check engine light to come on. If it came on the first time, you really should have checked the number. Hopefully it will come on again and tell you the code. BTW its a good thing the light comes on not bad. It will help you diagnose your problem.
Yeah I just came back from the Honda Dealer. The guy siad he did not have time to look at it. Sounds like BS to me
Oh well the check engine lights back one. I am going to try to visit some local repair shops. This is really starting to suck since ai need to make a 200 mile drive home tommorrow.

Pull the code. I take it you have a 98 GSR. Open up the passenger side panel where the ECU is. Reach up under the dash by that opening and pull down a blue connector with two wires going into it. Bend a paper clip into a U and put each end into each side of the connector. Now, watch the check engine light. It will blink the code the ECU is giving it. Short blink are 1, long blinks are 10. So, long, long, short, short, short would be 23. Got it?
