is my sub woofer blown?
did some searching... nothing that sounds like my problem...
first off:
Pioneer DEH6800 or something deck
Orion HCCA 225R amp
Kicker Solo S8L7 sub (2ohm DVC)
bridged/mono
anyway setup has been running for some time now. but every once in a while after over an hour of heavy bass i start to loose my bumps. figured it was getting hot or something, so i would turn the sub off (on the deck) and chose a diff music. also on heavy bass with it cranked up it would kinda give a squeak/vibration noise that sounded like it was coming from the box/sub. but a couple days ago it did it after like a 30min drive, was hot as **** outside so i didnt think to much on it (amp was hot when i stopped). but the next morning it was stone cold (well it was like 70* out) and i had no bass at all. checked all connections (power, ground, RCAs, speaker wires), fuse, got power light at the amp. and nothing has been messed with.
i have a 12v battery from my drill, and i tapped it with that and it didnt do ****, but the battery might be dead too...
so, what you think? this bitch nuked? any other way i can test the sub? or other ideas? thanks!

You can meter the sub with a multimeter or use any batt. to "pop" the sub, if no "pop" pull the sub and make sure speaker wiring is still connected.
You can also test the sub by pressing down on the cone, [use both hands so there is even pressure], cone should move freely without any "scraping" sound.
The above test will not "show" open VC. 94

thats how mine is wired... least that looks right, i unhooked it all. but seems like how i remember it. and hooked it back up like that.
i have continuity from the back of the box to each of the poss/neg on the sub. i have 13.48v showing on my drill battery. and i can hold the battery on it and the sub does NOTHING. doesnt seem to have a scraping feel when pushing down on the cone.
so its done?
also on that same note... i remembered something while browesing for a new sub..
suppose to be what my amp puts down:
400wRMS x 1@2 ohm
600wRMS x 1 @ 1 ohm
800wRMS x 1 @ 0.5ohm
im over powering that little bastard huh? lol this shows 450w RMS...
this one looks diff, but still 450/900
am i gonna burn a new one up too?
Take the sub out the box and get a multimeter.
Meter each coil....pos on multimeter to one pos on Sub, neg on meter to neg on same side
Should read right around 2ohm for each if you have a Dual 2 ohm sub

dang both coils went bye bye... oh and yea, if thats an old hcca 225.. its a very manly amp to put on an 8" sub, ha ha. at least no one can accuse you of under powering a sub..
yeah its the amp your thinking of. its from 2000, last of the awesome ones.
so. i will be upgrading to a 10" L7, lists them at 600w RMS. so it would be a better match.
