Default 97 DX Overheating problem

For the last couple of weeks, my car has been overheating when I have turned on the ac. I checked my reserve and it was bone dry. I filled it up, and today, it was bone dry again. I was leaving my car when I heard my reserve boiling. I had a new radiator put in last year because it was cracked. I think it might be a head gasket problem, but I'm not sure. Any more info? It would help a whole lot. it's very stressfull

Fill not only the reservoir with coolant but also the radiator. Also consider replacing the thermostat and radiator cap and then bleeding the cooling system.

With respect to a possible blown head gasket, you may want to compression test the cylinders and do a cylinder leak down test.

Sorry about not mentioning that I did fill up the radiator with coolant. Can anyone send a link on how to remove/replace the head gasket?

its super easy. get a repair manual or search for it here. also search about the blown headgasket youll see lots of people have the exact same symptoms as you i did too. the most important part of doing a head gasket is the torque sequence and specs. also if you overheated it really bad make sure the head and block arent warped. thats usually not a problem though.

Which fan do I check? Would a bad fan cause those symptoms? It doesn't overheat when I have the ac off.

Just wanted to note that the temperature goes up when I stop and when the ac is on. Maybe the fan?

You have two fans, one behind the radiator and one behind the A/C condenser. The radiator fan should run when the engine is hot, whereas the condenser fan should run whenever the A/C is on.

Ok here is some more news. I am leaking a whole lot of water when the ac is on. I open the hood and saw it's coming from a little tube. Also a loud screeching will occur. Possibly my water pump causing all this mess?

The leaking water may just be water condensation produced by the A/C when it chills the air. There's a drain tube below the evaporator on the front passenger side of the car. The loud screeching may be a loose A/C belt.
