Exhaust size for an N/A Build? 99 Civic Si
We are going to do a little NA build on the civic. Full exhaust, CAI, + Tune. This is just a starting point for the car. Im looking at the skunk2 megapower exhaust. They make 60mm, 70mm, and 76mm. Was wondering what is a sufficient size for an N/A 60mm (2.36IN) or 70mm (2.75IN). I dont want something too big and lose power but i dont want something too small to restrict.
Any thoughts?

The 60mm piping will be fine... By going with the 70mm your gains would be so minimal that it wouldn't be worth it...
On another note the skunk2 megapower exhaust sounds terrible... It sounds so farty... There are plenty of other options out there that wont make you look stupid with a big fart can going down the road...
My favorite thing to do is put a straight through muffler up as close to the cat as possible, it gives the exhaust more time to resonate after the muffler and it sounds like nothing else, plus you don't have a big ugly fart can...

Your plans will not net you nearly any hp for the money you pay. If you need to get an exhaust, get one that looks and sounds the best to you since the hp gains will be pretty much the same regardless of what you pick. Go turbo and then an exhaust really matters. I wouldn't waste my money. If I did buy one I'd get an Apexi N1 or an Hks HiPower.
What if we start building up the internals of the engine at a later time. I havent decided if im going n/a or f/i. Lets say i go fully built n/a, will it matter then?

Yeah go with somthing small and clean, the Apexi WS2 looks alot cleaner on a Honda than the Skunk 2 megapower and it sounds way better, at least I think so....
I'm probably the weird guy out of the group. I run a thermal exhaust with 2.5" piping. Sounds great, but there's probably no difference performance wise though, than any other top-dog exhaust system.
It's what ever you like, just do some research, and look on youtube. Some people have clips of their exhausts on that site. It's a good heads up if you're wondering how it sounds. Though, it may be distorted depending on the quality of the camera thats recording.
And like the other guys have said 2.25-2.50 is perfect for N/A.

yea i looked up the exhaust on youtube. sounds good. thermal r&d system right?. however we have the same car but i cant find the 2.5" for the em1 si. any special place?
Check out the invidia g200 exhaust, that's what I have on my em1 and I love it, paired with an invidia test pipe, dc header, and injen intake, sounds real nice, get compliments all the time
Yeah, It's the thermal RD, short for racing development. I happened to get the exhaust from a buddy who lives out in the LA area, who sold it to me for pretty cheap. If you wanted too, you could try giving them a call to see if they would sell it to you because i think it's still in the testing period. Or email them from their website : http://thermalrd.com/about.htm
