Shifter Sitting too far forward, and way too loose?
I had a ys1(GSR) trans installed on my b17 crx. I recently installed a YS1(LS) Trans. The shifter now sits much more forward then before(i am using a hacked integra linkage and i understand its supposed to sit more forward than normal, but it has moved even more forward then after the original swap).
The shifter is also EXTREMELY loose (side to side) in gear (feels exactly like neutral). I would simply rebuild the shifter. However, since this problem did not exist before the swap i figured that i installed a part of the shift linkage incorrectly. But i checked and everything looks right. Any ideas? Here are pics and a video. (sorry i know they suck and i know the "bitch pin" isn't installed in that pic"

wow that does look loose, is it shifting fine?
do you have the plastic spacer deal with the zigzag pattern that seats the ball or pivot point of the shifter into the cup of the linkage. the only obvious thing i see wrong with the linkage is that you're missing the peice of metal that supports the rear hanger/bushing, installiing that will stiffen it up, and you could also try polyeurethane bushings but thats not your problem i wouldnt think.

You are correct, i didn't wanna put it in until i finished the assembly(cuz it's a bitch) but the shift rod still holds in place with the pin absent.

man, that looks like that little zig zag piece like grog said. the one in my probe years ago broke, and it was hell to shift, the shifter moved all around.
Just put the bitch pin in it should make a huge difference, after all that pin is the only thing connecting your linkage to your tranny, ist fairly important. You never replied to the question about the zigzag pattern bushing, is it in place?

yeah thats the bushing. But just put the spring pin (bitch pin) in and see how it is. btw the spring pin isn't that difficult to remove/install just get a punch or bolt thats the same size and jack the car up high enough to swing a hammer a bit. I just rebuilt my linkage today and the weak point or rather the sloppy loose part of my linkage was the "U joint" at the front. i can go into detail if you want but i doubt thats causing your issue.
I actually rebuilt that u-joint with a piece of copper pipe while it was out....i put the spring pin in and it didn't make a difference. I'll check for that bushing....thanks
damn that sucks, have you wiggled it from under the car to see whats going on, there must be alot of play somewere. it looks like you have a short shifter, do you? those short shifters are like 1/4 inch thinner than stock and require some washers to bolt them up tightly.

Interesting... I had the same issue with my LS trans with my swap. Turned out to be a broken peice in the tranny. However I could not get into gear. I dont have a blow up of parts but it was the Shift change lever that connects to the "rod" that comes out of the tranny and connects to the linkage. (where the bitch pin goes) Was a VERY simple fix. The lever has two "fingers" and one broke. If the other "finger" had broke it would have gone into gear but been real sloppy like yours.
All you gotta do to find out is open the case and it is right there. Or shake the tranny around and listen for broken parts
I replaced all the bushings and verified my linkage was perfect before I opened the case. Cost me $25 for the part (homie hook up). However I have good buddies that came over and helped me tear out the tranny fix it and put it back in 3 hours
I really hope your tranny is OK though.

Yes it's a short shifter. As far as the trans. itself, I drove it once around the block and it shifted into gear fine, so I'm pretty sure it's nothing internal.
I also had someone wiggle it in gear while i was under the car and the only thing that seemed to have significant play was the U-joint, which i rebuilt. I never disassembled the shifter during the trans. swap, so i don't think I'm missing any hardware. But I'm sure gonna rebuild my shifter before i take my trans. apart to see if something's wrong internally.

I had the same problem (not as extreme as yours) and I think you are on the right track with the bushings.. here is a thread that I participated in a while back. https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...2384645&page=2 hope this helps.. My problem was the bushing right before the b!tch-pin as you will see.

I've run without that "zig-zag" bushing for years. I use the Hasport linkage with new bushings and it's tight.
Looks like the extension mount isn't hooked up either. Looks pretty ghetto to me, I'd save to a good linkage rather than trying to patch up something.

Problem solved....replaced shift linkage bushings and now the shifter is fine. But now that i look at it, it's possible that i had hammered in the bitch-pin too far and it wasn't holding the linkage in correctly. ...thanks for all your help guys
I own a rex w a gsr also..........n i believe am using a 1995 gsr shifter, the shifter that is bent kinda like an *S....kinda......................n my problem was fixed......look into i recommended
he bought "shifter bushings" from energy suspention. i doubt you have the same issue, crawl under you car (jack it up first and use jack stands) and wiggle the linkage and look for the source of the slop, U-joints are typically loose/sloppy.
