wrapping the manifold and downpipe a good idea???????
so, ive wrapped my downpipe and manifold in attempt to lower temps underhood. ive read that if you wrap your manifold it will crack.
its a full-race equal length manifold
so my question is....
is there any danger to wrapping your manifold?
is it worth wrapping the manifold for lower temps?

I'm planning to wrap mine. I think the problem with wrapping is that it can hold moisture in and possibly rust it causing it to crack down the road. I could be wrong, but thats the only issue I remember hearing about. It does work well at keeping the heat in the pipes though. Some people say that wrapping them will increase spool aswell, but I can't imagine it being by a huge amount. I'm wrapping them to hopefully keep my intake charge a little cooler. When I put my hands on the intake pipes after I've been driving for a while, they're pretty hot.
exactly why i wanted to wrap mine, just by raising the back of the hood, wrapping my downpipe and manifold my temps STAY at 180degrees. i live in the mountains so, even when i drive up the mountain (probably a 10minute drive UP, going 70mph) normally id be around 200~degrees water temp, now it stays at 180.
if moisture is the problem, i coated my manifold with black vht paint then im going to spray it with the high temp silicone spray to keep moisture out.

yeah i notice that too.. i just moved to the mountains and b16's have no torque so i basically have to be in slight boost to get up hills and such to stay that constant speed. it feels like im racing with constant being in higher rpms
I remember reading the full race equal manifolds already have a weak welds which can lead to cracks and that without the wrap so its kind of like gambling to me!
there always a tradeoff and the above is the only tradeoff I know of vs you can lower intake temps=more power,then it also allows for more heat in an the exhaust system= more exhaust efficiency=better spool & power so its a win win situation other than the cracks.

from what i know the welds get super heated caused by the header wrap it acts as insulation and not much outside air to cool it
so if your welds are good u shouldn't have to worry
i would search around see if the cracking of this manifold is true and figure what its worth to you

i suppose it doesnt put too thick of a wrap on the header holding MORE heat in.

honestly just call full race and see what they recommend. My manifold said it would void they warranty if it any coatings were applied, however manifold wraps were perfectly ok to use and would not void the warranty.
As long as it doesnt void the warranty who cares. If it cracks or breaks (which I highly doubt) its still covered and you still have lower bay temps
