Local True 10.5 Tire Class - We Won Last Weekend!
Saturdays have been really good to us this season.
Last weekend was the second of Milan's the "True 10.5" races since they wrote me into the rules and the first time the car stayed together. The premise of the class is 28x10.5" tires, no 'W' tires allowed, and RWD V8 turbo, supercharged, or nitrous cars. We qualified 3rd with a 8.586 at 157mph with a 1.325 60' time. It ran 165mph earlier in the day, but for some reason later passes were slower traps (but same rpm/wheelspeed in the datalog). I made a change since Brainerd to fix a problem that I think has the trans sucking up a little more power. They were putting us down the track after the Jets, and the track seemed a little slick. The whole area just reeked of kerosene as well, so maybe there was some 'stuff' on the surface.
First round eliminations was against a high 10-second car. I ran 8.68 at 153 lifting early with a 1.380 60' time and easily passed that round.
Second round lineup put me against a car that broke in the first round, so it was a bye.
Finals was against the #1 qualifier, who ran an 8.31 earlier in the day. This was a big-block 632ci nitrous Mustang. This round was NOT run after the jets, and boy did that help. I cut a 0.1039 light to his 0.2948 light and ran 8.618 to his 8.448. I won with a MOV of 0.0200 seconds! It was great, if the track was 5ft longer he probably would have won. I made a small change that I thought was going to gain power, but it went the other way and I obviously needed every bit I had.
In that final pass with a good track, my 60' was a new personal best by a mile - 1.2821.
Looking over the logs, it appears the car was overpowering the tires or the track was a little weak all the way through 2nd and into the bottom of 3rd gear.
I think I have some power to gain and ET as well on a really good track, hopefully we will see that at E-Town!

Good deal, that always makes for an exciting race when they are that close. Do you get a hard time with people in michigan since its a mitsubishi powerplant?

I think a lot of the old-school guys get a little thrown by the car being a Plymouth. If anybody wants to get in a technical argument about it being an import I can always pull the UAW-built card. I really don't get much flack though.
Here are a couple pics from the race.

We now have video!

Nice video, your car runs great, on wasted movement.
Congrat's, I've alway's liked that class.
