Default 2002 EP3 transmission knocking.

The transmission in my 2002 EP3 is knocking on the passenger side. I thought it was the CV axle because there was a bit of play in it so I replaced it but it wasn't that. I had a mechanic look at it and he said theres a bit of strut movement, that may be so but it doesnt seem to be causing this problem. When I put it up on my lift and let the clutch out it knocks really badly especially in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The other confusing thing is that it doesnt do it in reverse. I don't have much experience when it comes to transmissions but it seems to be something internal. The car still drive fine but you can hear the faint knocking over the road noise. Its much louder on the lift obviously. Its definately coming from the passenger side though... is there output shaft bearings in there or something similar? If someone could help me out I'd be very gratefull

Whats the background on the car. How many miles are on it? Is there any modifications? Were you the only owner?

Are you sure it's the transmission? Maybe a bad motor mount?

With the trans being on the driver "left" side and your noise on the right, it makes me think axle. Does it change when turning or if you are driving and go slightly one way or the other?

its 100% not the axle...I just put a brand new one in and there is no difference. The part where the axle goes into the trans has way to much play it in which is whats causing the knocking. Does anyone know what part it is or have a blown up picture of the trans?
