LSVT now, change back to LS ??? What to do ?
I am starting to run into funding probs and this is getting frustratiing !
Currently, I have the car set as an LSVT, waiting for a couple things, like my turbo rebuild. But in the meantime... I have the wrong ECU, so decided to just run her w/o vtec at all. I still need to buy parts to get the turbo kit back on, but I came up with an idea...
Should I just take the B18a head that I have here and just put that back on... screw the LSVT, save the extra $ for a new ecu and harness and just boost the LS as I have before ?
I will be able to eventually boost pretty high levels on this motor either way.... so I can definitely make up for lack of vtec.
The bottom end is pretty ready for the LSVT setup and revs to 8K no problem... but I am sick of all the little detail *****... I want my boost back... vtec can kiss my hairy azz.
Whadda ya guys think ?
PS, I can also start porting the LS head, but will have to do it with a dremel and about 1 month of porting. (keep in mind it is a B18A head)

do you have the vtec head already? if not just boost the non-vtec untill you can afford the vtec swap. it will give you more things to do rather than doing everthing thing at once
My motor is currently running as an LSVT, work is already complete.. they only thing slowing me down is the ECU situation. (I have an OBDII with a GSR ecu on B16 I/M, so vtec is, should I dare say... less than stellar.. if not total horse dung.
A new ecu would cure that, but that would run me the cost of a new ecu, obd1 conv harness AND a vafc.... as opposed to just a vafc for the LS computer that I already have.
I will boost about 7 psi at first on the LS, then 10 w/ upgraded injectors. 15 when I get Hondata or another type of ems.
The same would hold true for the LSVT, but without the extra expense and worry of the LSVT. Besides, i would build the LS head later on, I can always rev to 7500 or so.

Well... I didn't really give a crap about vtec when I was boosted before... but the LSVT opportunity presented itself some time back.
I am leaning towards going back LS... but I have a B18A head and am not too sure on it's efficiency for turbo. Yet ANOTHER thing to think about !!

i did the conversion and am converting it back to non vtec. it was a big damn waste of money that could be waaaaay better spent for power elsewhere. if someone ends up buying my head and crap...i am going to set up to run a healthy amount of boost without vtec. i am sure i will be satisfied then. no you don't need it.

i'll trade you straight up for your vtec conversion...i have a fully built LS head by JG with skunk2 intake mani and JG throttle body, and XS chipped LS ecu. the only problem is that 2 exhaust valves will have to be replaced. let me know.

boost it a lot and I don't think you'll even notice VTEC...
