Hey guys, I just picked up a 90 integra with a burnt exhaust valve, already fixed that , and i think it happened because the guy that i bought it from let the exhaust rot away and never fixed it , resulting in low back pressure thus burning a valve, anyway im in the process of fixing the exhaust and was thinking of beefing it up to a 2 inch pipe instead of the stock 1 3/4, with no cat or resonator, just 2 inch pipe all the way back to the 2 inch inlet/oulet muffler to gain a little extra flow. also gonna throw a cold air intake on aswell.

My question is, will this have enough back pressure for a stock b18a1? I dont want to burn another valve.... or would I be better off going with the stock 1 3/4?

The only time I've heard of an increased chance of burning valves is driving around running straight off the exhaust manifold. A lot of people on here have 2.5" or 3" exhausts and don't have problems.

Just get whatever size exhaust best suits the plans you have for your engine. If you don't plan on doing much to it, just go to an exhaust shop and have them make you a cheap exhaust in either 2" or 2.25". Or even find a stock one in decent shape on craigslist or something. Most aftermarket bolt-on exhausts for DA's tend to be in the 2.25-2.35 range, which should be just fine unless you are planning on turbo or a big NA setup.

 

i think thermal makes a 3" kit for the da. some of the ebay kits are a 2.5" and custom, well its custom, whatever size you want, and pick the muffler yourself.

 

Yeah Thermal has a 3" I had one on my old turbo DA and I liked it. I guess my main point is he should get whatever size fits his engine plans and not worry about burning a valve.
