Weather Seal Coming Loose
I own a new 2008 Honda S2000.
As I was driving home one day, I noticed that a weather seal, as pictured in the attachments, had come loose on the passenger side. It is stuck to the underside of the body panel with what seems to be double sided tape. It is an approximately 5 inch long strip that starts right by the door jam, and courses ~5 inches until it slightly overlaps with another very thick piece of sealant. It first started coming off at a point distal to the passenger seat (if you look at the pic where I mark it off with my fingers, the distal point would be my right hand). I was not able to tend to it, and it eventually fell off completely.
I took the car to the dealership, and showed them the piece that had come off. I was told that the top would have to be removed and the entire bracket that runs along opening for the top would have to be replaced. Apparently, the seal is part of this bracket. I was fine with this, and I let them work on the car. At the end of the day, I was informed that they had broken the new part that they had ordered by mistake. They replaced my top (along with all the old hardware), apologized profusely, and asked me to come another day when the replacement bracket had arrived. They had also washed my car.
As I was leaving, I thought I would run my fingers along the underside of the DRIVER side (the seal has originally come off on the passenger side), just to check the state of the seal. The driver side seal was also coming off, in a fashion identical to the one on the passenger side! The panel was a bit wet, and I suspect some water might have gotten in.
My question is, has anyone else had this problem? Is this seal essential for keeping water out? I think it is extremely odd that this seal has come off on BOTH sides of my car. Also, is this seal just an independent piece, or is it in fact a part of the entire bracket, as the dealership suggested (I do not want them messing with my top unnecessarily)? If someone could please post a technical schematic of the pieces of the top, I could provide any further clarification needed.
Sorry for the long read and thanks for the help!
