Hello ITR Bretheren,
I'm still lurking around here a bit. Haven't driven my ITR in over 2 years now and trying to get it back into action. Will be driving the car to some HPDE events this year and I am in search for a quieter exhaust that won't get me pulled over on the way there.
My current exhaust is a OG Version 1 T1R catback and it is too loud. I remember getting pulled over all the time for it and now being used to not being harassed by police I quite enjoy it
Back in the day my options for a quiet exhaust were a Mugen TL, Hytech TL and a Fujitsubo RM01A. Have there been any new options that developed recently? I know the ITR is not a new car and therefore the same 3 options are probably my only choice, but I though I'd ask you guys first. I'm not looking to choke the car either, so any kind of RSR or Apex WS is not going to work. I'm looking for a high quality cat back with good flow that is relatively quiet. Louder than stock is fine, but nothing crazy. I'm way too old for it now...Options 1 and 2 are still like 900-1000 (too much to spend on a 15K car) and last I remember Fujitsubo's tended to rust a bit.
Anyone have a RM01A for a long period of time that can tell me about their longevity?
TIA

Too restrictive for me. I'm running a big tube header and bunch of other things so I need something that flows that can still remain quiet. I need to do it without any silencer business as well. My T1R has a silencer and its annoying. I guess I always have the option of the stock muffler with upgraded B-piping.

Hmmm I really need something that won't get cop attention. Mugen TL and Hytech are pretty quiet, which I like. Is there anything else that can give me that same sound level. N1 exhausts and the SMSP offerings look pretty loud. If that were the case I'd just stick with my T1R
if you need a highflow and quiet exhaust, custom exhaust is the only way to go
nothing off the shell would do the job...
but mostly custom exhaust would cost around 800~1000cdn in canada... (i have no idea how much it would cost in state tho)

Arghhh all my mitsubishi stuff was so affordable (people selling full Ti exhausts for 600 used etc.) I have a hard time throwing down 900-1000 for a stainless steel exhaust.
Mugen TL! I was in the exact position as you and found a great deal on the TL, swapped it out for my spoon N1 and i couldn't be happier. You will pay a little more but i think it's well worth it.
And as i understand it, the RM01A is "quieter" than your average straight through muffler but it is still quite a bit louder compared to the TL designs.

fujitsubo rm01a is a pretty awesome exhaust.

EDIT: this is a better video of the exhaust. sounds nearly stock until you get on it, then it sounds like sex.

Hmmm that does sound nice. I just got a quote too for 765 shipped which is fairly reasonable. Not sure how much the Hytech and Mugen cost nowadays as I think they were 900ish last time i checked. Anyone know?

I have had my RM01A for 4 years now and I love it. Its perfect in every way IMO. I have DD'd in snow for the last 3 winters and it shows no signs of rust or wear.
I would go with Hytech if you are looking for something quiet and non-restrictive. Or you could go with the setup I have which is a T1R b-pipe and Mugen TL muffler. Since you already have the b-pipe you will only need the muffler which you could probably find for $300 to $450. I paid $450 shipped for mine and it was brand new. You will however have to modify the b-pipe so that it will be able to bolt to the muffler since they use different size flanges.
Might as well pack his exhaust with cement lol.
Fujitsubo is the best exhaust company in the world! The RM-01A is excellent - arguably the best sounding out there. It is full polished stainless with good welds and holds up very well (most Apex'i or other JDM brands use a mild steel inner core that rusts and rattles after a couple years).

If you have a big tube header and are concerned about maximizing performance while keeping the exhaust quiet then there is only one choice IMO....HyTech. The only other exhaust i have owned or would ever have on an ITR is the Fuji. The Fuji will be easier to come by. If you are serious about picking up a HyTech i'd contact him immediately. The wait can be much longer than anticipated. Best of luck.
