Default Ran a 12.7 at 124 on street tires

Last night I ran a 12.7 at 124 mph my first pass, and then wasn't able to run again because I didn't have a helmet with me. I'm just on street tires (BFG G-force sports 215/50/15) at 35 psi right now. I cut a 2.23 60', wheel hopped horribly in first and shifted into 2nd gear at 4500 rpms in 1st. I let out in 4th gear before the towers, hence the lower mph.

Last fall I ran a 12.7 at 132 mph with about 50 whp less power. Right now the car is making 565 whp on 93 octane pump gas at 18.5 psi (still has AC & PS) and 600ish whp if I turn the duty up near boost cut, which I never have done.

I want to run slicks, but don't want to grenade my transmission or have to pull it anytime soon, so I only run on street tires. I am thinking I "should" be running 10's with slicks and some seat time based on all things considered, like shifting out of first at 4500 rpms and 130+ mph trap speeds.

This is only the 4th pass I've ever made since I boosted the car. My best mph was 135 mph pegging the rev limiter right before the towers.

Here is the Video of me vs my buddies basically stock 2010 GT Mustang. He ran a best of 12.36 last night with just a electric water pump, drop in filter, and x-pipe....makes you think twice about buying a GT 500 eh?

Sounds kinda pointless to me. All that wheelhopping on street tires will break more stuff than slicks.

Well, I'd run slicks but the car is really a road race car. I'll probably pick up some slicks and skinnies this fall and run it again and hope for low 11's/high 10's.

What size slicks do you recommend?

Yep and it wanted to make more. We kept checking the plugs etc, and everything was smooth and good to go. But I DEFINATELY paid to play with my car man. Its built rock solid and I put all the best parts into my motor and the best tuner out there.

So what size slicks and skinnies from those who are way more experienced than I am?

Also, what wheel is the best for skinnies and slicks?

nice car... on the slick size in your case id go for a 24.5.. thats what pretty much all the 500+ whp guys are running.. i have never delt with skinnys.. unless its going to be a drag car i wouldnt get skinnies, expensize. but by your car it sounds like you have money to spend so its up to you

Stock axles and transmssion. Rev limiter set to 9500 rpms making power the entire way.

Actually with the Neptune boost x gear x rpm I can mess with the duty at the track, and I got the car to dead hook in 2nd as well last night. I might up the power some in second even more next time and see what she does.

I'd like to turn 3rd and 4th all the way up once I get used to the slicks.

24.5 would suit your power goals better. leaving your 4th gear top at 142MPH... 23's would be at 134MPH leaving you only 2mph to grow without bumping the limiter..

Ok thanks guys. I'll look into some M/T 24.5 slicks. How wide do you generally go?

What wheels do you recommend? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just drag racing stupid

Nice run, but I think you can get rid of some of that hopping by lowering your tire pressure. The hopping is going to cause you major problems.

my MH's were 24.5x8.5 or 9" and I was running Bogarts with a 1/2" spacer, make sure your fenders are rolled and make sure the front end is not slammed or the fenders will rub when your braking.

I have B16/ITR Gearing too and I was around 8800 with the 24.5's going through the traps at 137.

I ran 24.5x8.7x15 M&H slicks on my ITR. times are in the sig with 556whp. clutch was slipping so probably more in it so you have a ten second car if all goes well.

Like Ben said radial tires break way more stuff than slicks. I never broke an axle on slicks but on radials I have snapped em off in the hub and twisted the splines.

Yea I'm going to try and get the right offset so that I don't have to run a spacer or roll the fender just for slicks. Like I said its really a road race car. Maybe I'd try some 24.5x8.5x15 slicks and see how it looks. Stock height suspension so it shouldn't rub under braking.

The wheels are the correct offset, you have to run the spacer to clear GSR Brakes when using Bogarts..... are you still 5 lug with ITR Calipers? If so you have to run a 15" wheel.

Yea stock 5 lug and brakes, however I planned on running a 15" bogart wheel. But can't you get them with 5" of backspace so that you won't need a spacer?

I figured 15x8 bogarts with 5" backspacing on 24.5x8.5x15 M/T Drag radials?

The spacer is not that big of a deal, the Bogarts I ran had the spacer mounted and screwed to the wheel by Bogart.

I dont think MT makes a drag radial in that size, and you will break just as much parts with the Drag Radials as you will with street tires.

They make a 26x9.5 (235/60/15) or a 24x9 (225/50/15) in a radial

i dont care what you say 565 on 93 octane is way past what 93 can safely support, this is straight from all the top tuners i spoke with when i asked about it. i hope your at least sleeved.
