help please, tranny/clutch problems
hey so i was driving the other day and i went to downshift from 5th to 4th (in my 2000 gsr), and it wouldnt budge into 4th or back to 5th, or any gear at all, just stayed in neutral. After letting the car sit for a while to let it cool down it would start and everything but not budge into any gear with the clutch completely to the floor. I checked the clutch fluid and for any leaks and it was all perfectly fine.
I then went to drive home, the only way i could drive is by putting the car into first gear while its off and starting it, it just lurtches forward and starts driving, and it was extremely hard to shift into any gear and i could not downshift at all.
I got the car home and got to work to try finding the problem, i first bled the clutch, checked if the master cylinder was working, replaced the slave cylinder, drained the tranny fluid and ran a magnet through to check for metal shavings. I came up with nothing, i refilled the tranny fluid, made sure everything was good to go. I then started it up and tried shifting into gear with the car running, and it still wouldnt. only when the car is turned off it shifts smoothly.
Im thinking the clutch is toast, but i could be wrong, any ideas?
and ill probably start pulling the tranny and clutch out of the car but im wondering what is the best way, i have no engine hoist, or car hoist. and i cant pull the tranny out of the top because of my ac lines are in the way. But what is the best way to drop it out the bottom? supporting the motor with a stack of tires or something while the car is on jack stands? any help is apprieciated guys!

this has happened to me twice, especially on a stock clutch, the spring in the clutch disc has popped out or the little plate holding the spring broke off, the clutch will hardly disengage.... your gonna have to take the tranny off and replace the disc.
jack up the car really high on stands , high enough till u think the tranny has enough room to slide out from under the car.... a floor jack is best to drop and put the tranny back in. dont worry the engine wont fall on you , u dont have support the motor while u drop the trans. the driver side mounts are holding the engine there.
that happened to me you may need a new disc. just upgrade if your going to change your clutch get something good

To help get the car up higher, jack up the back first and put jack stands under the back of the car then raise up the front. I did this on my Del Sol on Saturday.
Depending on how strong you are you can just slide the Transmission off, set it on to your chest then roll it to your side and then slide it out from under the car. As for the angle of the engine use a jack to raise/lower and support the engine.
