Default problem with clutch

to start with, car is an 89 civic sedan, converted from auto to manual, and dpfi to mpfi. transmission is a 89 or 90 si cable trans, motor is a dohc zc out of an eg, car is running obd1 on a p29.

here is the issue, i have the car running, starts up no problem. i have a brand new comp clutch stage 2 clutch with a light weight flywheel i bought through kindmotorsports. clutch is in the car, bolted up and torqued to the proper specs. my problem is that i can not get the clutch to work. i step on the pedal and the cable just flexes.

things ive tried and done
1. new cable from honda
2 da cable i had spare, too long
3 transmission is fully rebuilt, new arm for the throw out bearing and everything
4. dropped the transmission 2 times this past week, tore down and reassembled
5 attempted to just pry the shift arm up with a small crow bar, didnt move

the only thing i can think of is that the pressure plate is not tall enough. i can see where the throw out bearing sorta touches the fingers, but it doesnt move any further. but when the transmission is off, i can bend the fingers with my hands, even though its only a slight bit.

ive been running around trying to get this fixed, i kinda made a bet with my dad that it would run by the beginning of the new school year.

anyone that can throw me ideas, that would be great

make sure to tighten down the clutch cable all the way with the adjustment screw. do that and see if the clutch goes in. when u press on tge pedal. and adjust accordingly. .. had similar problem.

ive adjusted the pedal as far as possible and it doesnt help.
there is no way i have the clutch disc in backwards, it has the bend to go in backwards. ive taken it off and put it back in 2 times myself and its fine.

as far as step on the flywheel, what do you mean?

from what i know about flywheels, its the something to do with the actual dimension on the flywheel, like how far it recesses or what ever, but i could be entirely wrong

When i was talking with competition clutch, they were telling me that there are 3 different clutches and flywheels for ef's. i know i dont have the 88 transmission with the 21 tooth spline, but they also arent too sure of the difference between the 89, and the 90-91. they have confirmed that the clutch itself is thicker, but like the throw out bearing is the same. evidentally, the 89 had a smaller diameter flywheel than the 90, but that really only affects the starter from what i understand.

anyone got any other advise i can use/try?

all of the flywheels are the same outside diameter with the same number of teeth on the starter ring - the starter is not affected by which flywheel is used - the 88-89 Civic STD and CRX HF used a 190mm diameter clutch - the 88-89 Civic/CRX DX and Si used a 200mm diameter clutch - all 90-91 used a 212mm diameter clutch - the clutch diameter is the outside diameter of the contact area between the clutch disc and the flywheel and the clutch disc and the pressure plate - 88-89 flywheels have a 0.024" deep recess (step) where the disc fits into - the 90-91 flywheels have a 0.065" deep recess (step) - here is what the flywheels look like
