Default How much work does it take to change cv joint?

I've got a 91 Si, and It's got a newer engine in it. It's a d16y7, and I was also wondering if I could still just use a stock cv joint off that model? About how long should I be expecting to be working on it as well? I do have some mechanical know how, just have never replaced a cv joint.

CV joint is going to depend on the transmission you have.
If you have your stock tranny then use a stock replacement.

If somebody went through the work of making the swap engine tranny OR axles work, then you can use either your stock ones or the ones for that they 'upgraded' to.
Dust rings and stuff complicate the whole deal.

On two occassions I have tried using Z6 axles in stock Si tranny and Z6 engine swap and they failed ot work even with dust rings removed.

If it is a stock (cable clutch) tranny, it is quite easy.
Just remove the spindle nut off of the axle with a 32mm sucket and breaker bar.
Jack up that side of the car
Pop the lower ball joint out of the lower control arm and take the shock fork off of the LCA aswell.
Pull the axle out of the hub, then out of the tranny

undo the clips holding the CV boot on.
pull the stub off of the axle and then remove the rollers off of the tripod.
Pull the circlip off and then the tripod.
pull your boot off of the axle and reassemble everything.

It's a 5 speed manual transmission, but I'm not sure if it's the stock Si transmission, or one from the 98 Dx that the engine came out of? Would a tranny from the older motor bolt up to the newer engine?
