Default Correct a/c compressor. Please help!...searched but no luck

Hi all,

I've been researching this for the past 4 days now and i've come up with no definite answers. I have a 91 civic hb std. When i bought it earlier this year the guy had the a/c compressor out of the car (turns out it's a bad compressor). too make a long story short, the compressor the guy gave me is a Sanden SD-708, model #7210.

Now everywhere i've looked...on this forum and other sites...suggests that if it's a Sanden compressor then it should be the Sanden TR70.

Well i bought a used TR70 thinking that the previous owner gave me the wrong compressor. Well i handed my car over to my mechanic and he advised that the SD-708 fits and the TR70 doesn't

does anyone have any insight or experience with this? do some ef civics come with the SD-708 instead of the TR70? any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i just tried putting the compressor (tr70) on myself to see and the compressor itself bolts on but the pulleys don't line up to the existing pulleys on the engine.

i haven't bolted on the sd-708 but i can see that it would line up with the pulleys on the engine. so i would assume the sd-708 is the way to go but just wanted some a/c expert opinions.

any thoughts from any a/c experts? thanks again.

As far as I know, EF's came with only either the Sanden tr70 or the Matsushita unit (don't know the specific model number). I've never heard of a Sanden sd708 in an EF, as those are usually used in light trucks (s10's, etc.)

Sounds like the original owner was either wrong or passed that sd708 off on you thinking you'd never know the difference/care

I would bet your car uses the Matsushita since the tr70 doesn't line up you say. Do the A/C lines match up/mate up with the tr70? If not, then that basically confirms your car originally had the Matsushita.

Also, it looks like if it is the Matsushita, the model number is NL1302AD4

Thanks for the input James89DX you might be right on with that. I think i'm going to hit the junkyard sometime soon and see if any of the ef's have the Matsushita's on them and see if that's the one that would fit in my car.

i know this is a noob question...as i'm not very mechanically inclined and rely on my friends...but how would i know if the A/C lines match up/mate up with the tr70? will the a/c lines screw in perfectly or something? again...i know very newbie question. haha.

i'll try to attach the pic that my friend drew up for me. see how the TR70 doesn't line up on the pic with the pulley.
