Default Coolant temperture sensor????

wusup tech????? Today i decided to replace my coolant temperature sensor. Hoping to cure my problem with my fans sometimes kicken all late and stuff. I know they work cuz i can hear and see them turn on. They just don't kick in on time i guess. Only when the temp gets too high. I see my needle slowly creeping past the mid-point and there they go. Any suggestions what could it be. Should i change the fan switch also? well my problem for tonite is that i did replace my temperature sensor and after driving for 10 mins. I get a CEL light. 5 long flahes. So i know it the sensor. I didn't have any codes before. IM getting pissed about this **** people. Im going to rest the ECU tomorrow and go from there. Wish me luck.

so you replaced the sensor for the ecu on the head, or the fan switch on the thermo housing? it might be a good idea to test the switch itself to see if its working right.

use a multimeter and thermometer to test the switch. heat it in a suitable solution and watch your thermometer. once it reaches 190 your multimeter should show continuity between the two terminals. (if it gets much hotter before it reads continuity then w00t you've most likely found the problem). now remove heat source and watch the temp drop. meter should indicate no continuity between 182-188 degrees fahrenheit. if the sensor fails to operate as outlined then it is defective.

will take your advise. Thanks.... what would explain my fans turning so late in the process though?

well assuming its the fan switch it could be as simple as that. if the switch isn't providing a ground for the relay at the appropriate temp of 190, and instead doing so at a higher temp, then that alone would cause your fans to come on late.

i know if you need to get a new switch you could go to autozone and get a low temp one for like $34'ish.... that way the fan kicks on at lower temp
